Wait wait wait.....Swift has never condone the employment of unauthorized workers yet knew about ICE planning raids as early as one month ago....but Swift went to court to block the raid because it would cause "substantial and irreparable injury" to its business. So it sounds like yes, you definately knew there were illegals working there otherwise how would it be substantial to its business. Oh yeah, because when ICE shows up they would take half the plants worth of illegal workers with them. Maybe Swift should STFU with playing ignorance and get hit with one hell of a fine that would cause "irreparable injury" to its business.

Anyhow, the illegals were rounded up but still haven't been kicked over the border. Between the problems with anchor babies, big business with big bucks, the mexican government preparing information booklets on how to prolong the system, and the logistics....there is still a lot of miles to go as well as political hurdles. I wouldn't be surprised if the Mexican government tells their border gaurds to block reentry. The underlying thought would be "don't bring them back here, we don't want people to actually stay in this country and cause reforms after they realize how corrupt our asses are"

In a written statement, President and CEO Sam Rovit said the company has never knowingly hired illegal workers and does not condone the practice.

Swift estimated that a raid would remove up to 40 percent of its 13,000 workers. After a closed hearing, a judge on Thursday rejected Swift's request, clearing the way for the raids.

They don't knowingly hire illegals or condone the practice according to the President/CEO of Swift, yet one sentance later they say the raid would remove 40% of their workforce.

It sounds like to me that they knew and did condone 40% of their employees to be illegal.

I put part of the blame on the people that come here illegally but I also put a LOT of the blame on those that hire them and give them aid and comfort (unions)..and the gov't. You know, there was quite a stir up here 5 or 6 months ago about an illegal alien. I don't remember, but I believe she was a Mexican national. She had married an American and they settled in the Kansas City area. She became pregnant and had their child, who's now a little over a year old. They've been married a couple of years. They went all the way to the Supreme Court, saying she didn't get legal service of the government's intent to deport her, etc., etc., etc. They finally said enough is enough and sent her back. It was a news frenzy. On one hand, I felt bad for her that she was being separated from her young family. But the other hand was pretty irritated that she was able to stay here long enough to have established the family. She had plenty of time to apply for citizenship but didn't. It's a tough lesson, but ya gotta follow the rules.

I thought so too - but maybe she was in the country illegally and THEN married which invalidated the loop hole? I dunno. I just know they sent her back and had all of Kansas City in tears over it. Holy cow!

That's called a "marriage of convenience" and doesn't qualify for automatic citizenship.

I wish birthing was called "citizenship by convenience" too.....

When a company or any individual breaks the law and then taunts the authorities like Swift did, I say they had it coming.

To my knowledge none of the other major packers are doing what Swift did. I agree with most people that these multi billion dollar companies should be held accountable for who they hire and pay high consquences when caught. If jobs were not available for illegals they would not be here.

I've heard many people say this was a terrible time of year to do this to the workers. But I say they have had plenty of time to get themselves legal.

And the unions who represent them are nothing more than leaches trying to hold on to a few dollars... Their true colors are not hard to hide!

Mike, I was being sarcastic!! Who me??!! If you will read my post, I said don't be predjudiced by just hitting Swift---Hit them All the SAME!! What amuses me is how the media reports a "big illegal alien bust" in say Bochuck Iowa, where they found 4 illegals!!! Give me a break, if they came to DC, they could find thousands!!!

You're right about finding thousands of them (illegal imigrants) in Dodge City.

I've spoken to many hispanics at both packing plants, many are my friends, they tell me that 75-80% of all the hispanics are illegal, working under fake names with phony I.D.s or are using stolen I.D.s. Just guestamating, I'd say combined hispanic employment at both plants...4,000. I'll let you do the math!

Like it or not, the hispanics, even the illegals make up a big portion of Dodge City's economic foundation.

When we run out of water (and it will happen someday) the packing plants will leave and so will the hispanics. Our population will drop to about 12,000. Property will become dirt cheap, the city will have to raise property taxes to survive. Eventually the city will go bankrupt.

We have created this problem ourselves and someday it will bite us in the behind... Maybe it already has!
