Interesting analysis on NPR today asking why ICE was going after the illegals with jobs... (?) when those dealing drugs and gang members were the most problematic...

If ICE was fishin' it'd be illegal to shoot fish in barrels.

I'm not sure I get that. ICE's territory is illegal aliens, right? So who gives them jurisdiction over gang wars if the gang members are legal citizens? And who gives them jurisdiction over drug dealers if they're legal citizens?

My only regret is that the didn't hit more packinghouses. We complain because Immigration doesn't do their job, and then we complain when they do.

What burns my backside is that the meat industry is now threatening us with higher meat prices because of it. Anyone else see a problem with this? I guess now we need to make a choice. Do we want illegal immigration control or cheaper meat prices?

I think the illegal immigrant issue needs to be enforced at a local level. Give local law enforcement the power to address the illegal problems. The way it works now local law enforcement does all the legwork and then the Fed's come in and take over years of hard work and grab the headlines.

Higher meat prices but in the long run it will be cheaper...

We? I don’t see unity on this.

I think some of us complain when the job isn’t done while others cry racist when it is.

True, but it will take time before those savings trickle down. Less health care costs, less government assistance costs for housing and food, less for your car insurance when all the uninsured illegals are gone, etc.

Why not both? Probably in the short run, meat prices would rise as the cost of hiring legitimate employees rise, but it would level out once you've cleaned up the town and your tax bill decreases as you have less people on the govt take.
