RIP Gerald Ford 1913-2006

Of those here who are old enough to remember, what did you think of the Gerald Ford presidency. And how was he as an ex-president.
I think pardoning Nixon - and it's attendant political suicide - took some political huevos grande that are sorely missing in today's "leaders."

As a Leader He was the bestest standin we could have ever found.... Great for Chevy Chase, too.

I heard Chevy's saying the "good words" when they leave him on the patio.

I think for a man that never wanted to be President - he was a good president. I think between his pardoning (which he knew was the right thing to do to allow healing of the 70's) and the klutz that he was - the world won't know he was a good president with morals and ethics for a few years yet. Jimmy Carter was another very misunderstood president - look at him now! Ford just did the job and went home - that's a smart man.

Actually Ford wasn’t really a klutz. He had problems from an old football injury.

He was actually a hell of an athlete. He turned down the opportunity to play pro-football, by accepting an offer to attend Yale law school.

I'll go along with y'all. I thought President Ford, even though not elected to the position, did a very good job. He just seemed to have common sense and wasn't in it to pad his pockets. Wow. I can't think of anybody in office like that now.

I'm amazed with the number of flags still flying at full mast. Some are even gummit funded.

There was a blip on our newscast up here about it. Yep, local, state and federal offices - some of them - weren't lowered yet. Nobody has to announce it, for Pete's sake - it's expected at the death of a former President. The thing is, this type of thing is often left to the lowest caretaker on the payroll, and not all of them know.
