Dodge company recalls meat

A Dodge City meat company is recalling more than 1,000 pounds of smoked meats because they may be insufficiently processed, the Kansas Department of Agriculture announced Thursday.

The recalled Jones Packing Inc. meat products include 903 pounds of smoked ham, 178 pounds of smoked roast beef and 250 pounds of smoked bacon, for a total of 1,331 pounds. There have been no reports of illness.

Subject to recall are:

•Packages labeled "Smoked Ham" or "Smoked Pit Ham" with the number 16 inside the "Kansas Inspected and Passed" stamp. They were produced Nov. 3 through 30 last year.

•Packages labeled "Smoked Roast Beef" with the same number 16 marking. They were produced between June 6 and Aug. 10 last year.

•Packages labeled "Smoked Bacon" or "Sliced Bacon" with the number 16 marking. The bacon was produced between April 3 and Nov. 29 last year.

All of the meat was distributed throughout southwest Kansas. The matter was discovered by food safety officials.

Consumers with any questions should contact company owner Pat Armstrong at (620) 225-5691.

So the food would have already been consumed?? When would it have been purchased?

There are new owners at Jones Packing, Tex! It just surprises me that it took so long to catch this problem. I thought the USDA was supposed to be protecting the public?? Sounds like a problem there somewhere.

When "Made in the USA" said there were new owners at Jones Pack, I assumed that Pat had sold it.

I wouldn't have purchased any of the smoked meat, but I'm a little concerned that it normally would already have been consumed and they're just NOW finding out it was possibly contaminated? Isn't that like closing the barn door after all the cows are out? I don't get the lag in time. Why bother to test it at all if it's not going to be done in a timely manner? All this does is give the new owners a black eye. Maybe all of you that may have consumed some of the aforementioned meat oughta complain. That's irresponsible government, as far as I'm concerned.
