Finally found the story! Course they also need to feel this way toward the packing industry, the service industry, etc. If one company can't help the undoccumented why should any other company?

Customers can qualify for a credit card if they have had a checking account at the bank for at least three months. They are required to leave a deposit and pay a relatively high interest rate, according to the paper.

The program is controversial. Bank of America says it will help undocumented workers build good credit. But critics say one of the USA's largest financial institutions should not be helping people who violate the country's immigration laws.

"They are clearly crossing the line; they are actually aiding and abetting people who broke the law," says the spokesman for the Federation for American Immigration Reform.

I believe that when you go into the bank now they advertise (in spanish of course) that you can wire your money to Mexico through them.

I'm surprised they can even get an account without a SS# but when I asked one of the peopel there the other day they said the illegals can get an account with a mexican Id and a drivers license i think. A lot of illegals though don't ever get bank accounts because it's sort of a way to put them on the map isn't it?

Sounds like a real gamble too me. I know people that WILL drop their accounts with BOA for this move.

You can bet I'll drop my bank like a hot potato if they play follow the leader.

Capitalism at it's best and worst? BOA is taking a risk but..this is just my opinion...the average person that banks there won't know about this and won't care. Most are proabably not principled enough to change their accounts to another bank (direct deposit, drafts, bill pay accounts etc) because of the hassle. They may lose a few customers here but that loss won't offset the money that they will take in from not only the interest on the credit cards but also on attracting new accounts from illegals that normally wouldn't have an account with the attraction that they can get a credit card. In principle it's wrong but they are in business to make money and along with as you said their stock going up this will probably make them a bit more $$. (I guess that's more money they can give back to the community as they are screwing them...lol)

I am one of those people!! I have thought about leaving BOA a couple of times in the past, but never did. After reading this article this morning, that was the final straw for me and I am taking my banking elsewhere. I will probably move my money to Landmark bank, since I own stock in Landmark anyway, I might as well move my account there.
