I would say it's a start, but until the businesses hiring/encouraging them to take the risk are punished, they'll simply find another route.

That's quite a story - was a joy to read! My question is why only 2 weeks in prison tho?? If it's only 2 weeks it costs us more than it costs them. Prison - lock them up - hmmmmmmmm such an easy simple answer..... think someone is starting to listen? I agree they otta broaden that to the owners of the businesses that employ them - I mean businesses that the majority of thier profit is made of the ignorance of illegals.

Which has been one of my tenets on this since I joined the board and its dicussion. In discussions it wailed up that they are criminals, but based on the level of the crime, they are no more a criminal than I was when I used to floor my car between LaJunta and Walsenburg (sp?) Co.

If they really want to change the immigration pattern, quit treating it as a misdemeanor and make it a felony with the attendant year+ jail time. That won't stop it but once word gets around it will darn sure slow it down.

I agree. I also think if they(illegals) were told now that they have been caught and have a criminal record in America, they have no chance of ever gaining citizenship even through the legal process. That might make them think twice about giving it a try knowing they have one shot.
