Global warming concerns are keeping children awake at night

If it didn't involve kids this would be laughable...

Global warming concerns are keeping children awake at night
Half of young children are anxious about the effects of global warming, often losing sleep because of their concern, according to a new report today.
A survey of 1,150 youngsters aged between seven and 11 found that one in four blamed politicians for the problems of climate change. Since when did an 8 year old start blaming politicians..
Are you doing enough?
One in seven of those questioned by supermarket giant Somerfield said their own parents were not doing enough to improve the environment.
Most of those polled understood the benefits of recycling, although one in 10 thought the issue was linked to riding a bike.
Pete Williams, of Somerfield, said: "Concerns over our environment dominate the media at present and kids are exposed to the hard facts as much as anybody.
"While many adults may look the other way, this study should show that global warming is not only hurting the children of the future, it's affecting the welfare of kids now.
"By raising awareness amongst today's young, hopefully we are improving our chances of reaching a solution.''
The study marked Somerfield's drive to reduce the eight billion plastic bags wasted by UK households every year.

This has got to be crap. Most 8 year olds are NOT worried about global warming...in my opinion. Spongebob maybe..global warming..probably not. They obviously didn't poll anyone in Dodge, there are high school kids here that can't SPELL global warming let alone know what it is or worry about it.

When step son was 8, he was writing short papers about the effects of global warming and what he wrote about was what he heard in school, since he didn't have the research technique down pat. Teachers have more impact on young minds than we care to believe, I think - especially if the teacher seems to pay more attention to a youngster than their own parents. All of a sudden, the teacher can speak or do no wrong.

So I do believe these kids are worried about it. Somebunny has made it a more critical issue than whether they have a new basketball or Barbie has on the right shoes for her dress. I don't agree with it - kids have to be kids before they'll grow up to be well-adjusted adults, but I don't know that there's a lot we can do unless we can legislate parenthood.

They should be concerned about it because they will have to deal with it.

My daughter is 5 and we've talked about it to some extent. Especially when she asks why I make her turn off lights and separate things for recycling. I just tell her every little tiny bit helps.

and that's the right approach, Wordy. I'm just concerned that parents are making kids overly sensitive. Like some of the wackos in the 50's made their kids afraid of nukes and built all the underground safe-homes.

Better that kids are well-rounded - like yours. They are still kids to a large degree, but taught the little things that will someday be important habits. But not overboard.

Just bustin' your chops, Wordie - I knew you didn't have an SUV.....just wouldn't suit you!

With all the gas crunch, I sold my '92 VW at 29mpg and bought a new one that's still struggling to get 25. I'm told it gets better......I dunno - I quit speeding (so much), and it hasn't improved......

Honestly, though - I don't know how they afford the gas. Our gas bill, just for the two of us and two cars operating is around $250 a month. Both cars get at least 22-25 mpg. So I don't know how people with little ones can afford to 1. make the payments, 2. pay the gas. Just astounds me.
