If you have kids in school ask them about what they see at our public schools. Most parents will be outraged to find even their kids have some affiliation ties to one gang or another. Not so much from choice as for security. They can not rely on anyone but each other. If the schools were to punish gang activity they would have no students.

For this reason the schools have adopted a Hear no evil See no evil stance.
I think that rule even applies to commissioner/teacher/driver dudes vs. principals in parking lots, too....

I think teachers are in the same boat as the students. Their hands have been tied as far as proper discipline goes. They, like the students, are probably forced into a gang of their own to survive.

I'm not laying all the blame on the schools, although it's a major player. Parents aren't helping matters either. I've heard from so many that are plain sickened by the system, but refuse to do something about it. They figure their kids will be out before long and can put it behind them I guess.

Because of a lack of action by parents and teachers my guess is you could count the number of non-gang affiliated students on one hand. I know you parents are probably saying my kids not in a gang, but even the kids that have no color affiliation are forced to rely on each other. They call them Neutrals and they have their own set of social rules they must follow.

At the risk of being called a racist... Im gonna say it anyway ... no pc here

Rap music does not help the gang situation.. we have talked about that on here before...SEX,DRUGS........I can't say rock and roll..... dont know what you call it...(damn ...I sound like my parents)

Seems like most kids are wanna be Thugs....the Thugs that are portrayed on music videos are mostly black..... before you jump my sh*t ....I dont make the videos.... or the rules...Im just relaying what I see... and hear

Kids have always been non conformists...against the establishment .... and the Thug lifestyle appeals to them for now.... Black,White,Latino,Asian....

This will be the establishment when these kids get into power.....

I give up.....Im gonna go get fitted for a GRILL.....and are there any classes to learn gang signs ?? YO...YO...YO...

Kind of sounds like life in a prison! People affiliate with a "gang" or group in order to have security/safety. Pretty damn bad when you send a kid into an environment that resembles a prison population.......

Garden City hasn't banked their entire economy on beef/pork packing and you don't hear of any gang problem there.........

Ya know, in the old school you didn't let everyone know you were in a gang. Now they brag about it. They like the spot light. Oh and they go around, you know this guy, I know this guy, just bragging about who they know and everything! I just got to sometimes shake my head and say..what a bunch of dumbasses!!! Kids just don't have any fun anymore and the other kids that aren't involved can't have fun because of all this crap. Sad real sad. Oh and drifter, I didn't take your post as a joke at all.

I did go to school there, and while there was not a gang problem evident while i was in school, i will tell you that someone had to had nice lucrative drug buisness going on. Come on it is college and let's face it, quite a few people do experiment.

I have no personal experience in great bend so it would be unfair of me to make assumptions.

Having lived in garden city before i can without a doubt tell you that there is in fact a big gang and drug problem there. Garden just like dodge does have a gang task force set up. You can go around garden and see buildings and property tagged up no matter what part of town it is. Unfortunately, i do know that it is a problem from personal experience (see my very first post on dodgeboard.com)

As far as a drug problem goes, when i was younger i actually heard a drug deal go down in a public bathroom at dance. As a college student, i knew people in Garden that either used or sold drugs. And trust me it was not too hard to find those people.
