Error on new dollar coin

Source: BREITBART.COM - U.S. Mint Goof Creates 'Godless Dollars'

Quote:
An unknown number of new George Washington dollar coins were mistakenly struck without their edge inscriptions, including "In God We Trust," and are fetching around $50 apiece online.

The properly struck dollar coins, bearing the likeness of the nation's first president, are inscribed along the edge with "In God We Trust," "E Pluribus Unum" and the year and mint mark. They made it past inspectors and went into circulation Feb. 15.

Seems like there is always a "goof" on new currency............. that jacks up just a few - IF they knew there was an issue how come the couldn't catch em before they got out?............ just seems a little too "planned" that almost every time they mint something new.......... there's some glitch somewhere........... Kinda like the movie flubs that are popular to watch.......

The worst thing about this dollar coins is that my boy thinks they are quarters so he looses 75 cents all the time. The size is way to close to a quarter so I quess i can can I don't like them.

If ya let him do a chore to work for the $$ he lost - I promise ya he won't be losin your money anymore. It's not about the $$ it's about the knowledge. I think I had my oldest emptien the bathroom wastebasket and stuff when he was little. Cours when they get bigger - if they don't know quarters are worth hangin on to......... wait till he's 15 and your handin out 20's (Just an old crabby momma point of view)

Some how I've got the feeling this 'mistake' may not be by accident. When the idea for the coin was introduced it was met with less than promising response. Like the Susan B, it's close size to the quarter is not to most peoples liking. Mine included.

By making a few mistake coins and playing to the idea of making money off them people have been going to the bank and buying rolls in hopes they will get a flawed one they can sell. I'm afraid this coin is destine to suffer the same downfall as the Susan B.

On the bright side, I much prefer finding dollar coins to quarters when metal detecting, so I say everyone run out and buy some.

I think the plan is by 2020 we'll have no more paper money only coins. In the works is a $5, $10, $20 and $50 coin. Man I could dig metal detecting in the future. Although $50 may only be worth the same as a quarter today.

When I heard that paper money was on it's way out two things came to mind. Hoard your paper money, and someone needs to design a new billfold capable of holding coins.
