Menu Foods said Saturday it is recalling dog food sold under 49 brands and cat food sold under 41 brands and distributed throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The pet foods were sold by major retailers, including Wal-Mart, Kroger and Safeway.

"At this juncture, we're not 100 percent sure what's happened," said Paul Henderson, the company's president and chief executive officer.
Local stores said Saturday they were pulling the products from their shelves.

The recall covers the company's "cuts and gravy" style food, which consists of chunks of meat in gravy, sold in cans and small foil pouches from Dec. 3 to March 6. The food was made at company plants in Emporia, Kan., and Pennsauken, N.J.

In response to the Menu Foods recall, Hill's Pet Nutrition announced a voluntary recall of the following Science Diet brand canned cat food made by Menu Foods:

Kitten Savory Cuts Ocean Fish 3 ounce and 5.5 ounce
Feline Adult Savory Cuts Beef 5.5 ounce
Feline Adult Savory Cuts Chicken 5.5 ounce
Feline Adult Savory Cuts Ocean Fish 5.5 ounce
Feline Senior Savory Cuts Chicken 5.5 ounce

Also, Nestle Purina PetCare Co. is voluntarily withdrawing 5.3-ounce Mighty Dog pouch products produced by Menu Foods from Dec. 3, 2006, through March 14, 2007.

The recalled products have code dates of 6337 through 7073, followed by plant code 1798.

This recall affects most brands sold as cuts w/gravy (dogfood and catfood) as this supplier sells under many different brand names. This news is just coming out, so watch for other brands to follow suit. You may want to switch to dry for awhile until all the 'wet' catfood brands are identified and removed from shelves.

That's why I'm glad my cat will only eat dry - hell my cat won't even eat chicken left on the counter - he will altho drink water out of his dad's glass!! LOL LOL Doesn't like me well enough to do anything but swat at me for dry food and bite my toes!! LOL

my cat will drink out of the toilet. I wasn't too worried
