Sister of Dying Man Refuses to Donate Bone Marrow to Save His Life

The sister of a man who is dying of leukemia is refusing to donate bone marrow to the British man, according to a London newspaper.

Simon Pretty, a father of three, told the Daily Mail that his sister Helen Pretty would not donate her bone marrow, which is a perfect match and could save his life.

Without the donation, Pretty could be dead by the end of the year. He would leave behind his wife Jacqueline and his children: Rebecca, 8, Jack, 6, and Benjamin, 3.

Pretty is receiving aggressive chemotherapy treatments in hopes that in the meantime another match may be found. The national bone marrow register did not provide any matches and doctors are now looking in international databases, the Mail reported.

"I am on death row," Pretty told the Mail. "I can’t believe that she would let my three children lose their father so unnecessarily by her actions."

Helen Pretty declined to comment for the story.

It's best not to piss on anything that's on fire. Especially if it's fully involved.

There's something more than his sister just bein a bitch........... perhaps it's against her religeous beliefs? Just a real one sided story there. Perhaps though this story can highlight the need to consider being an organ donor or perhaps it might inspire someone to go get HLA tested for the national registary. Black donors are in high demand and have very low donor #'s. I'm not sure about Asian donors - I know the most common donor when it comes to blood is white, hispanics are really good bout donating as well. When it comes to organs tho I'm not sure what the #'s say. Hopefully he will hook up with someone genetically close enough for transplant. Bone marrow is tricky stuff tho. His own kids thos would be 1/2 match more than likely. It's a painful process maybe she just can't get past her fear but I got a feelin there's more to the story.

i dont know what your sister has done to you wordy to make you despise her so much, but i know i would do whatever i could to help anyone in my family no matter what. I don't care what they have or have not done. It's family. I mean i give blood to complete strangers, why wouldn't I give to someone that i know.

Family is an accident. You don't have to love someone just because you have similar DNA

right you can't choose who you are related to, but i'm glad that i am related to who i am. Since i can't speak for your relationship between you and your sister(and i'm sorry that after having grown up together you don't see eye to eye) i'm not really entitled to speak so much. But i would say that i would give whatever i could to help ANYONE. I'm a donor..if there's somethin i can do without or somethin i can regenerate i will willingly give it to another person. surely this fella can't be that bad of a guy...he hasn't killed nobody...as far as we know.

Yeah, I'm with you, Drifter - but we don't know what their relationship is. Mine with my brothers and sisters is good, but not everybody's is. Bone marrow harvesting is painful from what I've heard. Maybe that's what her problem is. That would have been a hard decision to make, knowing it would probably end up in the news like this.
