It's depends on how you ask the ? in the poll. 1/2 the country is going to say pull out just because they hate Bush. I believe MOST AMERICANS and some Liberals want the U.S. to win. If you asked the question about pulling out and put it in the terms of victory I'm sure it would be different. The media does the polls to prove their point and get the results they want.

For example I am in favor of pulling the troops out of Iraq...absolutely..>BUT not until that place can stand on it's own and everything we have done and everything soldiers have died for will go to waste. Furthermore if we leave and accept a stalemate it will give our country and our military a black eye and put wind in the terrorists sails. It will tell them that we don't have the heart and soul to fight the fight that needs to be fought. THEN when they kill another 3000 people on our soil what do we do?

Well I'm in favor of getting Osama.........but then again, that's Afghanistan, not Iraq.

One thing to consider: Are 60% of americans wanting US to pull out of Iraq because they want their loved-ones home? OR because they don't agree with US being in Iraq to begin with? OR because they feel we spent enough $ and lives there already? OR .....

I really feel the american people have many different reasons for wanting the US to pull out of Iraq, but I don't have faith in any poll anymore. They can be skewed to show whatever the pollster wants. The people VOTED in to congress are representing the VOTERS and want to appear popular for future VOTES. I feel the president now and in the future needs to really consider the consequences of pull US forces out of Iraq. Yes, we stirred up the hornet's nest by going in and getting Sodam Insane out of power which most will agree that this was a good thing (source: my own poll!). But the responsible thing to do is finish the job. All experts from both parties agreed that there would be a "power vacuum" caused by removing Hussein. We must finish the job. The fact that more time has been needed in getting the new Iraqi govenmernt going should really be no suprise. Look how many years it took to get our own government going.

In the words of my beloved father:

"Then shit or get off the pot."

Quit dragging this freakin' thing out..........4 years is long enough. Nuke the bastards and get it over with.........I, for one, am sick of the current strategy..........

Enough is enough already........

P.S. I think all three reasons posted above are part of the overall 60%

I agree leaving would be a nice thing - I'm not even that concerned with honor and winning........ I'm concerned with leaving before the job is done. If the military feels we can do no more and it's political now - so be it - then our politicians need to get off thier pork assess and start doin something....... course they aren't gonna do anything unless our military is right in the middle to protect them.

There has been plenty of pork, this was not the time to load it down. This congress promised more........ it needs to start delivering on that promise - pork or no pork

I was for the war on terror until it got to the point of a civil war in Iraq. We will never win the battle in Iraq as long as they are willing to kill themselves over something that has been taught to them for centuries. Take a look at our own civil war. Nobody came in to rescue us and I think we are a stronger country because of it. Can you imagine if Britian or France or whomever came over a provided aide to the South? What a different place this would be! The same should happen over there. We are so peoccupied with Iraq that we need to still find the terrorists like Osama and the rest and continue with the war on terror.

NONETHELESS, The U.S. created this instability by means of removing the dictator. (not to say it was real stable, anyway) Therefore, we need to get Iraqi government in place with their own army/security. THEN we step out and see what happens. I agree that we cannot stop a civil war, and yes, it may need to happen. The U.S. may not be happy with the outcome of a civil war, but that should not be their decision.

I think the problem is, unlike our civil war, having the wrong people win control of Iraq will have dire consequences for the US. We have much more at stake in Iraq than most people care to see. If we pull out before giving the right people control we could well pay for it on our own shores in our own blood.

Winning the war isn't to defeat the enemy but to walk away without having to look back over our shoulders.
