Gaming bill passes house

Source: Kansas.com | 03/29/2007 | Bill authorizing casinos, slots clears Legislature

Quote:
Casinos and slot machines at horse and dog tracks were approved by the Senate early this morning, ending a day of filibustering that gave supporters time to corral enough votes to send the bill to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.

Sebelius called the bill's passage a "historic achievement" and is expected to sign it.

Supporters of the bill said Kansans already are gambling. There's the lottery, four tribal casinos in Kansas and near the state line in Oklahoma, wagering on dog and horse races plus Missouri casinos in Kansas City and St. Joseph.

The measure calls for large, tourist-attracting hotel-and-casino complexes in Ford County, Wyandotte County, either Sedgwick or Sumner county and either Cherokee and Crawford county. The state would receive 22 percent of their revenues, which opponents said isn't enough.

Be sure to find out how your representatives voted and be sure to let them kow how you feel about their vote.

I think it is about time to get on board with gambling.

Phooey on those that don't want gambling. I hope we get this passed in Dodge City, so that we can start benefiting from it.

Oh, Yes! I do think the whole community can benefit from it, and we need the gambling profits to start pumping money into renovating and improving this community.

If they are smart they will build the casino next door to the Special Events Center. Tie in some big shows at the SEC with bussing people in to gamble at the casino.
