proposal to require citizens who register to vote for the first time in Kansas after July 1, 2007, to prove their citizenship came up two votes short, failing on a 61-61 vote.

Sparked by concerns about illegal immigrants voting in the state, proponents argued that the new restrictions would make it easier to catch and stop voters casting ballots illegally.

All 61 votes in favor of the bill came from Republicans, while 46 Democrats and 15 Republicans voted against it.

If I got it right, the vote was in the House? I didn't see a bill number. How did Pat George vote?

From what I read in the article I gathered that Sen. Huelskamp supported the measure.

I posted this because some time back a few posters thought the suggestion that illegals were voting was ludicrous. I just wanted show its a crazy world we live in.
