More Wash. Post Nanny-ism on Gun Control

Quote:
OK, let's be specific. What would the NRA's objection be to a law requiring gun dealers to establish whether a potential buyer is a student and, if so, to inform (or even receive permission from) the student's high school or college before any weapons could be sold? .........
Well, EXCUUUUUUUSE ME! Putting USD 443 or DCCC in charge of student ownership of anything is un-excusable.

Yeah if you're legal age to purchase one then this is extraneous legality that wouldn't likely work anyway. Question 12 Are you a studnet _____Yes _____No

Let's try enforcing the current laws and see how they do before adding more.

The VT shooter was prohibited under current law because a court found him to be a danger to himself and others and ordered mental treatment. That court ruling didn’t flow over to the background check data base and this guy slipped through the cracks. Try fixing the problem with a law that wasn't enforced.

From the Washington Post column:

Quote:
Advocates of gun control try to open a discussion about whether more reasonable weapons statutes might reduce the number of violent deaths.

Opponents of gun control shout, "No!" Guns don't kill people, people kill people, they say, and anyway, if everybody were carrying weapons, someone would have taken out the mass murderer and all would have been fine.
Step one. Define more gun control as “reasonable” and paint opponents as shouting nut cases. If the writer wants to have reasoned debate he needs an attitude adjustment. I’m not inclined to negotiate anything with someone that talks like this.

A mass murder is defined as 4 or more victims within an hour. How many can you think of that occurred were citizens can legally carry guns as opposed to gun free zones like schools and post offices?

Now we know better. But how often do we have to relearn the lesson (-) that leaks from prosecutors can be biased and unfair?

When will we start to think about the people who are hurt by our coverage? And when will we take our responsibilities seriously?
