All I have to say is that this is a foolish argument by the Bush Admin. Whats 250+ Million when your ass is getting shot at. If I was still in I would scratching my head wondering what the. But I digress as I can see the opposite argument, if 3.5 is good why not 4.0 and if 4.0 is good why not 4.5, so on and so. I personally would rather see an increase in combat pay though if that means a smaller increase in base pay. Then again when I was deployed I saw my pay nearly double to over 4 grand per month because of per diem, hazardous duty pay, no taxes, and although I technically didn't live in a house I still was able to procure pay for housing. Then again I was active reserves.

Being deployed, I am granted access to all kinds of special pay. The biggest is family seperation pay of 250.00 a month, but you don't get that for the first 30 days you are in country. Then there is Hostile fire pay, $225 a month, and of course the entire tour is tax free, but not FICA free. If I were Special Forces (and believe me, if I weren't married, I would be), I would get an even bigger bonus.

So you get a whole $250 a month to be separated from your family? Wow! That's incentive, isn't it? (tongue-in-cheek) None of the asses voting this kind of pay in would do it for 5 tmes that. Somehow it's easier when they're doing it to nameless, faceless people. They'd think twice if it were their own.
