My Opinion by Pablo Candia (Globe)

Hey Taco Pablo, have you and the globe heard, charges dropped from Felony, check it out, and print the facts, what worries me and most folks, is the illegals in our city, and our so called Leaders local, state and Goverment just loves them. here is a challenge for you and the globe, do a true honest check on all the local latinos stores, taco wagons, and selling cooked ?? goods in parking lots with out a license or permit, and see who is paying sales taxes, and who really has health certificates??and to keep you honest (that is funny) give names and locations of business. so we can check it out also. just to keep you honest.

Community leaders are setting bad examples
My Opinion
Pablo Candia
Dodge City Daily Globe

All the time we are seeing more and more outstanding people who play important roles in their communities involved in problems with the law, and this trend is worrisome.
Here are some cases. A pastor’s wife murders her husband in Tennessee, and the flock is shocked since the couple appeared to be two doves in everlasting love and, of course, two exemplary church leaders.

A top Friends University administrator is exposed as an internet child predator by the police, and his faculty, staff and friends are incredulous because of the decency this man displayed in his public life.

Baseball Hall of Famer Orlando "Peruchin" Cepeda is caught with drugs in his car by the San Francisco police, and the news surprises the San Francisco Giants since Cepeda is nothing less than a community liaison who speaks to children about the dangers of drugs.

And recently in our community, a Dodge City commissioner and educator was accused of aggravated battery.
What’s going on with outstanding people from whom communities expect the best? Without doubt, we are having a moral crisis, not only in the U.S. but also in the rest of the world.

If you browse the internet to read news from other countries, you will realize how many people in important positions are frequently in trouble with the law. Since the Catholic Church scandal broke out, exposing numerous priests as sexual predators preying on children, many other important people, from corporations to local and national institutions and organizations, have been involved more often in some form of scandal.

This reveals that nowadays many people, no matter their social positions, are living a double life, and that is frightening because then a disturbing question emerges: To whom can we entrust our children or our community issues? It seems that nobody can guarantee that the person you are dealing with really is trustworthy.

Living a double life also means having double morals, and even top national leaders aren’t setting good examples for their constituents.

Here is another recent case: Last April, the Bush administration refused to judge a fugitive Cuban, Luis Posada Carriles, who was accused of setting explosives in a Cuban airplane in 1973, killing more than 70 people from different countries. Instead, Posada Carriles was released on bond.

Mainstream American media, such as The New York Times and The Washington Post, among several others, warned the Bush administration that by dealing with this man in this way, the government was showing a double moral standard in the war against terrorism: "A terrorist is a terrorist when they kill innocent people, no matter if that man was a CIA contributor during the Cold War," pointed out one of those newspapers.

After seeing this official double moral standard, what would ordinary people think? Well, if our leaders practice double standards in their lives, why shouldn’t we?

Another factor in this moral decline of our community leaders is that humility one of the main qualities of leadership has become a rare practice among them.

When leaders show humility, it is a great motivation and inspiration for the people around them. Take Cesar Chavez’s humble attitude, for example. He wasn’t only a key speaker and leader; he was always traveling through the California crop fields to work shoulder to shoulder with the laborers he represented and defended.

But with this growing crisis in moral leadership, the Greek philosopher Diogenes would light his lamp again to look for an honest person in daylight.

"Taco pablo" wow what goes through some peoples heads just amazes me.

I have had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Candia, he has even sat in on some hispanic advisory board meetings that i have been a part of. (Whoops, i can't believe that i just mentioned that i actually have sat on a hispanic advisiory board) And i must say he has always been very respectful so for you to start off this post with "taco pablo" really disturbs me. I wonder what people really think of me just because of my hispanic (MEXICAN) heritage. So it seems to me that your only problem with this article is the fact that a hispanic person wrote this. I wonder if you would have written this witty response if say any of the regular Globe writers wrote this and not a writer from "La Estrella"

Now as far as the article, I may be wrong but it looks like an editorial to me. I read numerous newspapers online (hutch, wichita, liberal, garden, topeka, salina) on a daily basis and guess what; each of these papers has an editorial section. I have read and re-read this article a few times now and really see nothing wrong. It looks just like most any other editorial that i have read before.

So here are some links to other editorial pages. Maybe you can find something wrong with them. And maybe, just maybe you will write in a response to those editorials. Oh wait a minute, you actually have to put your real name on the response in order for it to be printed.

But wait I can already see what the first response to me giving all of these links. "But it is not dodge City"

Oh, and since we are going with ethnic sterotypes on names, I think I may change my screen name to "Enchilada Hugz"

I don't care who wrote it - it's a far editoria with some merit......... altho it's not the best I have seen. Everyone altho is entitiled to thier own opinion. I'm sure it was heartfelt for him and overall message is WTF is goin on??? or was it - everyone else is a liar cheat and thief so go ahead on!

Hell there are hispanics that don't know who Chavez was and really don't care. Those days are gone!

I took it as an Estralla piece so of course it's hispanic in nature. Too bad those that read it in Estralla couldn't read it in the language of the country they so desperatley want to be in............ that's my only issue. He should have been talkin bout assymilation - it will get his people further than draggin up morals and such. We all know some just live in the gutter - no matter what race you are - some just choose to stay there.

funny you should say that, about a response, it is in the making my friend, and yes I am aware of using my Real Name, no problemo there. and as far as you changing your screen name to Enchilada Hugz, that is your choice. to each his own. Pablo likes to stir the pot and I just added some seasoning. LOL, Hot tamales. Oh and by the way yes I have responded and will respond to article written by white, blacks, combinations of both, etc etc, some times the globe prints them and sometimes not. Heck I love everybody, even Pablo, I just don't like him. LOL..

Don't be decieved. The management at the Globe has an agenda. Just one agenda is to discredit Terry Lee any way they can.

First, Pablo mentions a pastor's wife committing murder. Second, a child internet predator is mentioned. Third, a baseball hall of famer is caught with drugs. Then out of the clear blue Pablo tries to throw Lee into the mix. Mr. Lee hasn't even been found guilty yet.

In my opinion, it is irresponsible for the Globe to put their name on that editorial. The character assasination of Terry Lee has been the primary goal of a group of disgruntled individuals for quite some time now. It is time for it to STOP! If Mr. Lee is found guilty then the editorial with his name or position mentioned would have some merit. But as of yet Mr. Lee is still to be presumed an innocent man.

Good point Mike!.............. I just didn't think it was such a good read - period!

I do think that hispanics ought to be calling thier own to moral values and american values.............. altho that doesn't seem to be happening here. Again if you are unhappy here with what's goin on then strive to make a change or go elsewhere. Getting folks riled up isn't a very positive change to me. And if ya have to read it in Tex Mex..................... you need to go take english lessons.

I don't recall hearing that the SUSPECTED child predator has confessed, or even been to trial; he's just made a first appearance in court. I learned from OJ that what looks like an open & shut case isn't always. So he has his facts wrong in 2 of the 4 cases he cited. I can't attest to the facts of the other two cases because I mainly pay attention to Kansas news. Did the pastor's wife confess?

If he is found guilty will he resign? Do you think being charged with a crime has an affect on his ability to do his job? Do you think him being charged with a crime (although not found guilty as of yet) puts him in a negative light with the public he represents?

Do we blame the people that sell that stuff or do you blame the local leaders/enforcers for letting it happen. We have illegal gambling in south Dodge (horse races) and I'm sure most of our community leaders know about this and let it go on....There are LOTS of illegals driving around without insurance and drivers license. All the leaders/enforcers would have to do is set up a few check points and find these people...but they don't want to..they look the other way. Are the community leaders representing the citizens or someone else? How does that horsetrack benefit the community? Who profits from it?
