Are you saying Oil Companies are greedy? Perhaps you should look at the profit an oil company makes for every dollar they spend. It's not near as much as banks and pharmacuticals. (If you want to talk "evil" there is where you should start..) Oil companies pay more in taxes than they make. See, gas is high and we blame the large oil companies because it's easy. How about putting some blame on those that make it virtually impossible for "big oil" to build any new refineries or drill for oil? How about the local/state/fed gov't who makes MORE off of each gallon of gas than the oil companies? Also for every Enron there are several companies that take care of their employees. How much do you think a CEO is worth? Look at GM, it's practically in the tank. Losing billions a QUARTER. If they could bring in a new CEO with fresh ideas and take a few risks and turn the company around so that it MAKES billions a quarter how much do you think that guy would be worth? 500 Million a year? EASY......

The same as net income: total earnings less expenses.

Investopedia Says: In other words, profit is the money a business makes after accounting for all the expenses. Profit is the goal of every company.

above is what I thought the term "profit" means..... does that not include taxes ??....Just wondering

i agree but then why is it when a company makes a lot of profit do we chastise that company and call them evil and greedy? Is there such a thing as too much profit? Should there be caps on how much a company can make?

There is on utility companies. It is a regulated industry. Not sure about now, but I believe that the phone companies also are or were regulated.

I don't know the answer.... but I think maybe ...just maybe...when the prices keep going up and up....for no apparent reason... American jobs are being lost to low wage countries..... for that bottom line ???.....that sure sounds like evil and greedy. I could be wrong.... I have been more times then I care to remember...

I suppose since its all about profits and that is our culture ...we surely have no complaints...

See, YWS, you never wanted to drag me into this. I still feel that demonstrations bashing our leaders are wrong. Just wrong. It helps the enemy to know just where to hit - our morale. Feel what you want, but don't do it in that form. We're in the war. Let's not try to second-guess our leaders, but let them do what we elected them to do - lead us through it. I don't agree with every single thing that I hear.....I only hope I'm not hearing it all - that there's something else I don't know that makes their decision the right one. Blind trust? That's a democracy, right?

Maybe instead of fighting those in our government, we should try to turn this into something good.....maybe we want to be able to go to the polls more often...

I just know I'm not the only one that hates this stinking war, but I have to put on my game face when somebody is openly disrespectful of our leaders.
