I'm not saying that - what i am saying is the experts at TB are found at your Health Dept. That's who your MD reports to. There are thousands that never take prophalitic meds and they do just fine. My bet tho is that the woman who died this past year would have gladly taken the med if she knew the germ would kick in at her weakest time. I can tell you that IF i ever get a + test - I'm takin the med based on what I have seen. I used to co ordinate TB and HIV services at the county jail and I deal with TB now in my clinc as well. I'm not as educated as your MD but you can go find the recommendations on the CDC website - they are there for all to see and co ordinate thier own care. The time frame for xrays I think are now 5 years. First tho I would make REAL sure I really had a postive test and not a misread. There are probably more misreads than there are positive tests.

I have only told one maybe 2 DB members to seek a second opinion. I think they are still glad they did.

Well, there's your problem!! If you are gonna go to a Doctor in Dodge, it had better be a local Veterinarian, as I wouldn't trust any local MD's!

Here's another thing that I think is strange. He was diagnosed in February, and I am assuming he's had at least a little physical contact (perhaps a lot) with his fiance and she doesn't have it. If he hasn't passed it on to her, why were they so concerned about him giving it to others in an airplane?

Unless...he was on a mission to recruit members for the Mile High Club.

That's my point - he has been proven to be very probably not contagious........ the sputums were neg - ya gotta have 3 seperate sputums to get that clearance. They probably told him not to travel cause of the probability of becomming infectious.......... ya gotta remember this is drug resistant TB - not your typical TB My other guess is since they are talking about removing the diseased tissue - I bet it's way down in the lungs - not in the upper lungs. If you have TB say in the kidneys - you aren't contagious. This just reeks of political stand off to me. You constantly submitt sputums cultures but I bet they had to do biopsies to actually get the TB diagnosis to begin with. Maybe not but from my years - it just don't add up. It's extremely rare they go in and cut out part of the lung but sounds like that's his next option. He still may die but I really doubt if he gives the disease to anyone. I think he took his disease into his own hands and I bet his fatherinlaw knew what the CDC ain't sayin. Hell even Harris county Health Dept (houston who has probably the highest TB rate in the US) is sayin it ain't such a big threat. Galveston county used to have the highest rate in Texas - don't know where we stand now but I know we got our fair share - I do bout 30 TB tests a month in one clinic and bout 20 in the the other.
