10,000,000 years ago we had sunny beaches, too.

Since then we had a disaster that changed all that.

FEMA came in and fixed everything.

Now life is good.

I took out the middle of your quote...makes the quote much more interesting.

We still have sunny beaches. He/She is a new member.

Even if emissions don't add to the global warming problem, pollution is a problem. Anyone ever been to Denver and seen the brown cloud?

In my mind, global warming is a moot point. We still need to take care of the natural resources we have and move away from fossil fuels into renewable energy sources. Coal and oil won't last forever. Let's find a better way to do things.
I agree Tiger. Unfortunately intelligent, ration, clear headed thinking like that will be overcome by the fear mongering of the global warming crowd. We’ve been working toward solar, wind and other alternate forms of energy for several years and over time ingenuity and market forces will put us there in an economical fashion if we let it.

For years the brown in the cloud over Denver was mostly particulates. Dust. One main cause was the sand that was spread during a snow storm. After the snow was gone the sand was ground into dust by the traffic and kicked into the air. Any redneck worth his salt can tell you that when you drive on dirt it throws dust into the air. It took Denver a couple of decades and hundreds of thousands of dollars in consultant fees to figure it out.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for common sense to guide public policy.

This is the most level headed, thoughtful, rational post I've seen thus far on this thread. Thanks Tiger......I totally agree. We have a responsibility to take care of our planet.......what a concept!

Amen to that !!!!! Great post Tiger

I have thought of this many times lately. ( see link ) My daughter and I just discussed this a few hours ago. She is one of the environmental educators for this and surrounding counties and yes she is a tree hugger. This brings up the bee thing (I know, I know, shut up weezie) My Daughter has humming bird feeders hanging and last summer the poor birds had to fight the bees to get to the sugar water. This year................................. Not one bee. there was reference made in the movie about the bees disappearing. I didn't remember it , but she sure did.

But yet you have this in Denver...

Rocky Mountain News - Denver and Colorado's reliable source for breaking news, sports and entertainment: Local

Denver targets global warming
Goal is equivalent of taking 500,000 vehicles off road
Linda Mcconnell © Special To The Rocky

Points in proposal

Denver may ask residents to make personal sacrifices to combat global warming. Ideas being considered:

• Making heavy users of electricity and natural gas pay more

•Charging residents who throw away a lot of trash

• Setting energy-efficiency standards for new construction

• Giving carpoolers and hybrids priority for parking

What's next?

You can read the entire article. Every idea to reduce "global warming" costs people money. Once Denver does it then the hippies in California will do it then the east coast and eventually the midwest. We are going to be taxed and pay fee's on a lot of different things to reduce something we haven't totally proved exists or that we can even make a difference....baaaaah!

Kilimanjaro's shrinking snow not sign of warming

Quote:
The snows of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania have been diminishing for more than a century but probably not due to global warming, researchers report. While the retreat of glaciers and mountaintop ice in the mid-latitudes -- where much of the world's human population lives -- is definitely linked to global climate change, the same cannot be said of Kilimanjaro, the researchers wrote in the July-August edition of American Scientist magazine.
Kilimanjaro's icy top, which provided the title for an iconic short story by Ernest Hemingway, has been waning for more than a century, according to Philip Mote of the University of Washington in the United States and Georg Kaser of the University of Innsbruck in Austria.
Most of the retreat occurred before 1953, nearly two decades before any conclusive evidence of atmospheric warming was available, they wrote...

...Unlike mid-latitude glaciers, which are warmed and melted by surrounding air in the summer, the disappearance of Kilimanjaro's ice is driven by solar radiation, since the air around it is rarely above freezing, they wrote...
