Playing the race card in high school sports

Yet those actions wouldn't insulate DeCristofaro from allegations from black parents that he was prejudiced. He was investigated -- and cleared -- of bias charges by the county and later by the state. Facing the specter of a third investigation of the same charges, DeCristofaro resigned June 6 and took an assistant coaching job in Georgia.

And you know, it's never the kids who get into (race issues)

"She tried to get me to sign a petition, saying all the black parents wanted to get rid of coach because he was prejudiced," said Martin. "I told her she was crazy, that this man had called me twice to check up on me (while in the hospital), and that he was no racist.

That is to bad. But it does go on at schools all over. Not only with race but with money. If you have the money and the pull in town you can get a lot done to a coach. It is a sad day when you see some thing like this go on.

It is too bad that parents have to do these kinds of things. With most coaches it does not matter if you are black, brown, white, green or yellow, they want to win and are going to play the players that are going to give the team the best chance to win.

IMHO, there are too many parents, especially in low income, inner city areas, that think thier kids are going to become big time professional sports stars. And the simple truth is that there are very few high school stars that are going to become these high paid sports stars. And i am guessing that this is what these parents thought.

I agree. There is this high expectation of the kids being on a Wheaties box or trying to live their lives through their children. Realistically, it is crucial to have an education along with goals beyond the reliance on sports.
