| Sheriff's office continues to investigate shooting The Ford County Sheriff's Office is leaning towards designating a Friday morning shooting that killed one Dodge City man a suicide. Sheriff Dean Bush said the sheriff's office hadn't officially designated the death as a suicide, but it seemed most likely. Deputies will conduct several concluding interviews over the next few days to rule out any possibility of foul play. "We're making sure we're dotting the 'i's; and crossing the 't's," Bush said. The sheriff's office took over the investigation after it was discovered that the shooting took place outside city limits. The Dodge City Police Department responded to a call at 10:34 Friday morning from Western Plains Medical Complex, reporting that 24-year-old Dodge City resident George Gallegos had been admitted with gunshot wounds. According to initial reports, Gallegos was brought to the hospital in a private vehicle. Two other people were in the car. Gallegos died from his gunshot wounds shortly after being admitted. Police Chief John Ball said Kansas law requires hospitals to notify police whenever they receive shooting victims. During the police department's initial investigation, Ball said the two people in the car with Gallegos said he was shot on La Salle Avenue. Officers investigated the area and, after they were unable to find any evidence of a shooting, went back to the two witnesses. Upon second questioning, Ball said the two changed their story and told the police Gallegos was shot in the car while south of Dodge City. The police department then turned over the remainder of the investigation to the sheriff's office. Reach Mark Vierthaler at (620) 408-9932 or e-mail him at mark.vierthaler@dodgeglobe.com. | Thanks, What I 'heard' was that he was shot 3 times...not sure if that is true. I also 'heard' that his friends dumped him at the hospital. Again not sure if that is true. If he WAS shot 3 times that would be one hell of a suicide attempt...
