Navistar subsidiary International Military and Government LLC (IMG) in, Warrenville, IL won a $623.1 million indefinite-delivery/ indefinite-quantity contract (M67854-07-D-5032) for 1,200 additional Category I (CAT I) Mine Resistance Ambush Protected (MRAP) Low Rate Initial Production vehicles. As previous DID MRAP articles have noted, CAT I MRAP-MRUV vehicles are patrol vehicles that can carry 6 passengers including the driver and front seat, as opposed to the larger CAT II MRAP-JERRV 'squad' vehicles. The MRUV role is similar to a Hummer's, albeit with more carrying capacity and much more protection.

International Truck's Mine Protected Vehicle, recently dubbed the "MaxxPro" by its manufacturer, is actually a collaboration with an Israeli firm who provides up-armored vehicles for the Marines. Their offering appears to have overcome lukewarm initial interest – but even successful survivors of Aberdeen's tests may not offer enough protection against the class of land mines now seeing wider use in Iraq…

I heard they won't be delivered till 2009 - lot of good they will do then. Seems they could be rolled out before then.

Probably Army. It’s much cheaper to just up-armor the rear ends or the current units in service since that’s the only thing the Dems want to show the enemy.

Joe Biden has been pushing for these vehicles for a long time now, and raising hell in congress to get them built and sent.
He is a democrat.

Anyway its about time and I cannot understand why it hasn't happened sooner...... remember, there are more than just democrats in congress so I fault them all for not figuring this out when the IED's were first used. I guess they did tho sense they made a few. Anyway thankfully their on the way.


I dont think the dems will poo poo this, it will be suicide for them for the next election.... When our troops are pulled out its not gonna be in a day. So our guys will need all of these they can send and asap

That one looks a little different than the one's we'll get. For one thing, the engine compartment isn't armored on this one. And they'll have to re-do that entire front end, and a "crows nest" around that turret ring. Call me silly, but I am sure that they are going to put "cage armor" on the body of it too, because its not slanted and would make a great big RPG target. BTW, the bad guys are starting to find armor piercing RPG's now. Wanna guess where they are getting those?
