I don't get paid near the national average for my job either but I do live in western Kansas/northern Mexico. In fact I doubt you'd find anyone around here that will say they get paid good for what they do. Well, besides teachers.

I heard that Dr MacElhainy (sp?) up and left Dodge because he was tired of the way the supposed leaders are running the town in the ground and more specifically, the high taxes. They moved to Wichita. Joe and Twila Beck (owners of the old put put golf course in the park) also left some time back to escape the gangs and taxes. They moved to Emporia. They were my neigbors at the time and were some real fine poeple.

I know of a lot of other upstanding citizens who have left Dodge City because of the high taxes. A buddy of mine who owned several business here has recently moved to Wichita and tells me his property taxes in Wichita are $300 less per year on his $150,000 home verses his $120,000 home in Dodge City. They have a lot more things to do there and don't have to deal with the high concentration of illegals.

Our community leaders, through their stupid decisions, are running the good folk out of this town and the vacuum is being filled with uneducated illegals - this is happening just to line the pockets of a few folks who are pulling the strings behind the scenes.

On another note...I hear we already paid Bogner over $2 million for a peice of his pasture land for the Casino. Is there gold under that there land?

I get paid about half the national average for a Certified MS Engineer. I stay in Dodge because I grew up here and my family is here. But as they die off or move, there becomes less and less of a reason for me to stay. I am sure I will be leaving soon to get relief from the taxes, illegals and the poor city conditions. The fleecing of the working mans assets is getting to me - too hard for the working man to get ahead in this city.

The Doctor left because his wife wanted to be near her children.... it isn't money that we always follow.

Ain't that the truth KC! I'll update my post on moving as not to derail this one! But I can't agree more about the vacuum effect.

Did the City buy Bogner's land? Who's "we" Tee?

I must be confused again because I thought the casino people bought the land and the price hasn't been disclosed.

Dr. McElhinney did not move to Wichita, they moved to Lawrence but he is still here seeing patients 2 days a week at the Dodge City Medical Center.

What are some of the other benefits?
Don't forget the insurance! The city pays for the insurance, it's a high deductible but you don't have to pay for it.
