I don't have a problem with gays so much as I detest hypocrites.

I guess all these guys just couldn't get into the priesthood.
I don't find the breaches of morality to be nearly as disturbing as I do the blatant hypocrisy, which does not need a violation of one's morals to be egregious in nature.

And, may I point out, hypocrisy seems to strike each party equally.

I tried to look the other way....

I don't know what the big deal is. Would they have arrested and published (nationwide, at that) if he hadn't been who he is? Probably, it would have gone unnoticed by all of us. The fact is, it was published. It has been discussed ad nauseum in every news source. If there was a special "foot tap" that found him illicit sex, then I, for one, don't really want to know.

Deep down inside I disagree with his sexual choice. It repulses me. But it is a choice. His. It's not illegal, right? So why step down? What he did was morally reprehensible, but since when does foot tapping in a public restroom equal a crime. If another gay person takes notice and is drawn by it, so be it.

There are probably just as many of these guys in each party. To me, it's just a way to slam the other party. It takes attention away from the issue at hand - war, poverty and crime. Get back to work - there's nothing to see here.

He's a public figure who holds himself out to represent the people who elected him. He votes against rights for homosexuals yet he torlls for guys in the bathroom.

We could debate the whole "choice" thing but lets not do that one here. His big problem, as I see it, is that he's part of a culture that makes him feel like he should repress who he really is. He wants the hot man on man sex but he's been taught to believe that it's bad and imorral and he's ahorrible person. But deep down he can't help who he is so he has to resort to illegal activity in bathrooms to relieve his urges. And it's not illegal for one homosexual to attract another but they are trying to stop the public sex.

When people stand on one platform and espouse one thing to get elected and then do exactly the opposite it's a relevant issue. Regardless of party.

I disagree. The problem isn't that the culture forces him to repress who he really is. The problem is that in order to have the power, position, and prestige that goes along with being a congressman, he has to repress who he is. In my opinion, it's the equivalent of lying out one's ass in a job interview. Greed is more at fault than culture.

And THAT is exactly my point.

I’ve got your hypocrisy right here.

Remember that old saying about living in a glass house? Democrats have no room to complain about Republicans when there are so many Democrat scandals that the Dems chose to ignore. I ain’t buying the BS about Republican “family values” as an excuse to claim hypocrisy. I don’t remember any Democrats running on a platform promising to molest underage boys, accept bribes or leave young ladies trapped in a car to drown. It just didn’t happen. Turning a blind eye to the illegal activities in their own party while pointing fingers at Republicans as hypocritical as anything they accuse Republicans of.

Here’s some examples;
  • Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) answered an ad placed in a Washington, D.C. homosexual paper, the Washington Blade, by Stephen Gobie, a male prostitute. Gobie became Barney Frank’s live-in sexual companion, and was soon running a male prostitution ring from Barney Frank’s condo. Today Frank chairs the Financial Services Committee.
  • Rep. Gerry Studds (D-MA) has sex with underage male House page. Studds turns his back on the House when he is censured. He continued to serve in House for six more terms.
  • Senate Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) plagued by scandals: Abramoff Scandal, Sons who are lobbyists, boxing tickets and other perks, land deal that made him $1 million, etc.- Serves as democratic Senate Majority Leader.
  • Hillary Clinton (D-NY) Her husband is impeached- record number of scandals and convictions during his term in office. She herself takes money from FBI fugitive. Today she is leading democratic candidate for president.
  • Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) kills girl . Leaves her in pond to drown. Today he is second longest serving member (next to the former kleagle) in the Senate.
  • Senator Robert Byrd (D-WV) former Ku Klux Klan Kleagle (recruiter). Today Byrd is longest serving member in the senate.
  • Rep. William "The Refrigerator" Jefferson, Democrat. Two years ago, an FBI investigation caught Jefferson on videotape taking $100,000 in bribe money. When the FBI searched Jefferson's house, they found $90,000 in cash stuffed in his freezer. Two people have already pleaded guilty to paying Jefferson the bribe money. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently put Rep. William Jefferson on the Homeland Security Committee which oversees appropriations for the FBI.
  • Former Clinton national security adviser Sandy Berger literally received a sentence of community service for stuffing classified national security documents in his pants and then destroying them -- big, fat federal felonies.

So instead of quibbling about what Republicans are doing maybe Democrats should be doing a little housecleaning of their own before casting stones. Not doing so is hypocrisy.

Wow who wrote that for you highway?

They want back, what, 30 years and that's all they could dig up?

Anyone want to help highway figure out how many republican scandals there have been in the last 3 years?

I got that part. So the people that elected him ought to be up in arms and remove him from office. I got the part that he has a vote, too, and it might be his vote that screws up the amends for the rest. Here in the heartland, I just absolutely couldn't care less. He doesn't represent me in Congress, I can't vote for him or vote to remove him, etc., etc., etc.

While we're on the subject, what rights do I have that a homosexual doesn't have already? Holy shit! Maybe there are rights I should come up with, that since I may have an "alternate" lifestyle - I'm over 50 ya know, so I'm a "protected" group - I need. Hmm. Let me think. I know there are some.......

Or maybe this all just hits a sour note to me. My thought? If ya wanna alternative lifestyle, it's OK. But know that if you choose that lifestyle, there is gonna be some loss of rights. Cuz by the very name, it's alternative!!!!!

Yeah, IF you CHOOSE an alternative lifestyle. Like I said I'm not going to debate that here. What this is about is this guy's perversion and breaking the law. If he was soliciting sex in public from a woman it would still be perverted and illegal.

But THE GUY broke the law, not the entire party. Both parties have some idiots in office. That the people they represent continue to vote them in is something none of us can do anything about. I just think it's short-sighted to condemn the entire (either) party because of a couple of real idiots (or their constituents).
