OMG! Here it comes folks!

That's right THEY are attacking the most basic and traditional holiday. Halloween under FIRE!

Rocky Mountain News - Denver and Colorado's reliable source for breaking news, sports and entertainment: Education

By Kathryn Richert, The Daily Camera
October 3, 2007
BROOMFIELD - There won't be little ghosts and goblins at Kohl Elementary School this Halloween.
In a newsletter sent home to parents, Principal Cindy Kaier wrote that the traditional Halloween party celebrated in classrooms each year will be replaced by a fall party on Friday.

And because the party is focused on fall, not Halloween, children can't wear costumes.

Parents expressed frustration that they weren't included in the decision.

Brook Kimber said it's hard to explain a random Oct. 5 party to a child.

The decision came after a discussion that culminated in an "emotional" meeting with teachers that focused on school holiday parties and how Kohl could continue to celebrate without leaving out anyone.

It's been that way in Dodge at least since my oldest has been in school. (six years) Of course its also a Winter party, not a Christmas party, and a Spring party not Easter.

That wouldn't have hurt my feelings at all when I was a kid. I hated dressing up.

Hell, I STILL hate dressing up!

Concerning Halloween

How safe are the costumes, made in China ? Army said they threw away the bibs they had for the baby. They have the plastic backing, and we have seen the commercial for the lead test kit.
Any way, just food for thought about what is in the masks that children have so close to their faces.

I also wonder about the dish ware, Any lead in it. Does microwaving in those dishes cause a problem.

If I remember correctly some plastic containers were unsafe if microwaved.( made in China ? )

What a wuss.......why not just do away with parties altogether? Hell, that would solve the problem of hurting someone's feelings. Instead of school, let's call it, oh, I dunno, a group....that way we don't offend those who don't want their children confused with fish. We will call it Supposed Theories instead of Science, call it Maybe instead of History, Foreign Language instead of English...........fuggin wimps.

This is why you shouldn't have anything religous in school. Just because it has been the status quo over time doesn't mean it's that way now. If you have a school that is 60 percent Muslim (it's coming) why would they celebrate Christmas? I remember having a couple of Jehovah's Witness in my class and when we did out Christmas party and our Christmas play they were not allowed to participate. They just set there excluded. I can imagine how they must have felt. It's a public education system paid for by taxes of people from all religions so there should be be no preference. I think there is nothing wrong with an all inclusive Winter Celebration that would include everyone. If you open the door up for all relgions then you have to celebrate for Satanists, Christians, Muslims, Wiccans etc....Exclude religion in public schools because like it or not...Christianity is NOT going to always be the majority relgion in some area's of the country.

We have switched over to Fall/Winter/Spring parties long ago. Works fine for me.

The kids are tested so much now - and spend so much time prepping for tests - that to even take the time to have a party is getting difficult. They have taken much of the recess time away too.

Times change.

I used to look forward to those class parties like nothing else!

I agree with Army....................

I do believe our Christian values are disappearing, however in a PUBLIC education system it should be a place for teaching academics.

That is the evolution of it. Things change from the old ways. Is it a good thing ?

The problem I see is the distraction from teaching. You can teach about other cultures without the religious dogma, and practice your religion at home and place of worship.
