CLEVELAND - At least four people were shot by a 14-year-old suspect at a Cleveland high school Wednesday, school security officials told WKYC-TV.

The gunman had two weapons, witnesses told WKYC. The suspected shooter was reportedly upset about a suspension on Tuesday.

The security guard was on vacation, WKYC reported, and two other full time security guards had been laid off in recent years.

Clearly, the only way we can prevent this in the future is to mandate a non-age-restricted conceal/carry law. If only those kids were armed, they could have defended themselves.

Just figured I'd jump on the bandwagon before it even got started!

Oregon teacher wants to take gun to school - Breaking News, Tampa Bay Weather, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Sarasota - ABC Action News

Oregon teacher wants to take gun to school
Last Update: 10/09 12:56 pm

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon high school English teacher is demanding the right to pack heat on the job.

Shirley Katz says she needs to take her 9 millimeter Glock pistol with her to work because she fears her ex-husband could show up and try to hurt her. She's also worried about a Columbine-style attack.

But Katz's district has barred teachers from bringing guns to school. So Katz is challenging the ban as unlawful, because Oregon is among states that allow people with a permit, which she has, to carry concealed weapons into public buildings.

School Superintendent Phil Long insists employees and students are safer without guns on campus at South Medford High School, where Katz teaches. The district plans to make that argument when the case comes before a judge on Thursday.

The concept of armed teachers has been discussed for years. The opponents always scream that we just can’t allow guns in schools. Those folks get their way and it fails over and over again. Remember that definition of insanity?

After all the crying about no guns in schools they go and hire a guard with a gun. They had one at Columbine and it didn’t work. Virginia Tech has a complete police force of their own and that didn’t work.

It’s time for a change.

While a part of me goes with teachers feeling safer with a gun........I still do not like the idea of it. While horrible as these instances are, they are still isolated instances. You start allowing teachers to carry weapons, then why have the gaurds? What if one of them snaps (we have already seen some in the law enforcement community do that) and starts shooting? It's different if you carry a gun and are attacked. What if the shooting is in another area? Do you want your kids exposed to a gun weilding PANICKED history teacher?

If one of them snaps... they aren't going to be asking permission to carry one anyway.

Wordy nails it on this. I wouldn’t want my kid around a hysterical or panicked teacher with or without a gun. My take has always been if I can’t trust that teacher with a gun, I can’t trust that teacher with my kid period.

We need to remember that no one is proposing that we just arm all teachers. What has been discussed is any teacher that wants to go through all the requirements to get a CCW be allowed to carry on the job.

This no guns in school has gotten so insane that I’ve seen news stories where a cop in uniform isn’t allowed to go into a school with a gun if its parent business instead of police business. Being careful about who carries is one thing, being ridiculously paranoid about guns is something else.

Rickenberg & Masters did a good job of crowd control with a simple piece of wood. My hearing sensed the pain; so my butt never had to feel it.

Wait a minute - I'm not allowed to CCW at my job - and there have been some insurance people taken out - not lately, but still. So shouldn't that be allowed by the employer? So if USD 443 decides to allow it, then so be it. If my school district decides NOT to allow it, then that's our choice. I still think employers should be able to make the decision for their own place of work.
