Can't Say I like this.....

"The 2,600 members of the Minnesota National Guard returned
recently from extended duty in Iraq, which was reportedly the
longest consecutive deployment of any outfit (22 months, counting
extensions). However, the Guardsmen still do not qualify for
government education benefits. The law allows the benefits only
for those on "active duty" at least 730 days, but the Minnesota
Guard's orders (as well as some other outfits' orders), were
specifically written for "729 days." [KARE-TV (Minneapolis), 10-
18-07]"

Whoa. I don't like that either. They did the same grunge work as regular Army - seems like they ought to get regular Army benefits for the time they spent doin' regular Army stuff. Hmmm. Might be time to write the congressman. We're paying a whole lotta taxes for those bennies, but it doesn't make sense to give them to some and not all.

They specifically cut the orders that way. It's not fair but there are certain things they get by going over 730 days so that's the way they do it. It saves the state money. Blame the politicians.

Yeah, I know that's how their orders are cut. Doesn't make sense, that's all. Anybody that serves in a foreign war in any capacity should be eligible for the same bennies. I know I couldn't live with myself after that kind of horror and I wouldn't want my kids to have to, either. Just tears me apart that those boys gave their all for one day short and got the short end of the stick for it.

Like someone else said.

They should have denounced their American citizenship while there and sneak back as illegals. Then they'd have all the benefits they could want.
