Oklahoma sets the STANDARD for illegal immigration reform.

OKLAHOMA CITY -- One of the toughest immigration laws in the country goes into effect in Oklahoma Thursday.
The new law will make it harder to get state-issued IDs and create fines for business owners who hire illegal immigrants.
Local activists said they would be holding a protest on the steps of the Capitol when the new law goes into effect.
They said the new law will only enlarge the gulf between citizens and non- citizens.
"These unjust laws in Oklahoma and those in other places across this country will tear this country apart," said activist Roosevelt Milton.
Legal immigrants said something needs to be changed, but the new law isn't the solution.
"If we want to better immigration in the United States and fix the problem of illegal immigration, let's fix first the legal process to become permanent resident and eventually citizens of United States," said Mauro Yanez, a legal immigrant.
A representative who pushed this law said he's just getting started.
"The illegal alien problem is a substantial problem to the safety of Oklahoma," said Randy Terrill.
He said he will introduce what he calls the son of House Bill 1804 in the next legislative session.
"It would focus on having some cleanup language that related to House Bill 1804, making English the official language," said Terrill.
A group of Latino clergyman said they're challenging the law and have filed a temporary restraining order to put the law on hold.
A judge will hear that case on Wednesday.
A protest rally will take place at the state Capitol at noon Thursday.

This new bill does the following:

1. Set criminal penalties for knowingly and willingly harboring illegal immigrants.

2. Cut off public benefits to people in the state illegally, except in cases of medical emergencies or emergency aid.

3. Require all businesses to run all workers through a federal verification system or risk penalties and legal action.

4. Cut off in-state tuition for illegal immigrant students unless they can verify they have applied for citizenship or plan to apply within one year.

5. Empower local law officers to enforce immigration laws, closing the loophole that prevents local officials from holding an illegal immigrant unless that individual has been charged with a crime.

The Harboring means RENTING to...HIRING or TRANSPORTING. Oklahoma is essence telling ILLEGALS to GET THE F**K out. They are "closing the benefits vault" on them. (I guess a lot of them will move to Dodge..lol)

Right now I don't think it's a crime for someone to be here in Dodge Illegally or snatch up Gov't benefits. If I see someone that I KNOW is illegal (I have people admit that to me almost daily)and I call the police they can't do anything.

I like each and every one of these laws. Oklahoma has LEADERSHIP that is representing the TAX PAYING CITIZENS of their great state. It's TOO BAD that WE don't have THIS TYPE OF LEADERSHIP at our STATE/LOCAL LEVEL. GOD BLESS THEM and may they have a long and properous time in office. ALSO notice that the tough laws taking effect were passed by REPUBLICANS.

Excuse me.

There should be a large gulf between a lawful citizen and someone that crossed the border in the middle of the night. To say otherwise is like saying if someone can kick in your door that he’s lawfully entitled to half your stuff.

If a bunch of people show up at the capitol to protest they should all be detained while ICE checks their status, even if it takes a couple of days. The noisy ones should take a week or longer.
