Marine Recruiters Hired Stand-ins to Take Tests for Enlistees

Wow, just wow....

HOUSTON -- The military has punished nine Marine Corps recruiters who arranged for stand-ins to take Armed Services entrance exams for new enlistees.

The cheating was made public Wednesday, though officials at the Military Entrance Processing Station in Houston noticed in April that signatures of test takers didn't match those on enlistment forms, said Capt. John Niemann, a spokesman for the recruiting district.

"I don't know why this happened here. Obviously, we do not tolerate it," Niemann said. "We learned of it. We investigated it and took appropriate disciplinary action."

The worst offender was discharged from the service while the remaining eight were reassigned and given non-judicial punishments, which could include fines and demotion.

The military would not release the names of the recruiters or say who the stand-in test-takers were.

Officials said they found 15 instances of fraud, although they weren't sure how widespread the practice was or how long it had been going on.

The cheating took place on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery, a test given to prospective recruits to determine whether they're eligible for the service and what type of military jobs they're best suited for.

Officials said the recruits who didn't take their own tests faced a range of consequences, including expulsion from the service. They also had an opportunity to take the exam on their own, authoritie said.

This is called "Using a ringer" to test. It's a HUGE NO NO. It's not just the Marines that do it either. All services have recruiters that do it. We have had a couple guys get caught in our BN doing it and they paid the price. Recruiters are not above doing dumb sh*t. Recruiters that do that kind of crap are usually bad recruiters under a lot of pressure so they do dumb sh*t. What happens though is that they set the kid up for failure. IF they put some kid in the military that in reality can't pass the test and consequently not qualified for the job then he will probably fail from day 1. What's even worse is that this kid, if he makes it through training is probably going to be watching someone's back in Iraq...ugh. If a guy can't pass the asvab we send them to the National Guard....they take anyone...

The Nasty Gaurd takes people that the Army can't take and also take people that the Army Reserves can't take. Then if you get kicked out of the Army or Army Reserves the Nasty Gaurd has a home for you. I know one guy that has charges against him for battery and other against women. The Army Reserves kicked him out and the nasty gaurd took him and gave him a bonus. WOW!!

Yes, as unfortunate as that is...The KS guard unit that has been over there has had to send a lot of people back because they shouldn't have been there in the first place and the rest of the unit suffers for it.

Come on Top, you know the deal. I've personally taken people down to the Guard recruiters that we can't touch due to "issues" that make them dq for the Army/Army Reserve and they join the NG with no problems.

I talked to a high speed young man the other day w/ the NG that's on leave from IRAQ. He said a lot of guys in his unit have been sent home because they should have never been there in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, there are some GREAT soldiers in the NG but unfortunately they fill in the cracks with people that shouldn't ever, EVER be in the military.
