Stanley "Tookie" Williams' Execution?

Stanley "Tookie" Williams, the black founder of the Crips gang in Los Angeles, was convicted in the 1979 murders of a convenience store clerk and is scheduled for execution just after midnight.

He claims that he's reformed and I believe he is reformed because 20+ years of incarceration along with NOT being surrounded by his homies does change a man's direction in life.

That's where my problem with 'why' our system of Capital/Capitol punishment is failing. We always execute the wrong person due to the changes the murderers all go through in living. The additional problem is that their peers on the outside also change so deterrence is less effective. Timely executions might be more effective because the murderer hasn't 'changed' and neither has their peers; to whom we are trying to send the deterrence message.

In the case of the "Crips" gang and their 35 years of existance, I believe they wouldn't be what they are today if Tookie would have been Taken from this earth a long long time ago.

Yup...Tookie's time is up. What he did was wrong. How manyof the "good things" would he have done had he not been caught? I would venture to say ZERO. Hope the GOV AHHHNOLD won't cave in to the libs in Cali and will let this guy fry.

Ya know how I am about flip em and fry em......but i must say in this instance I just have to leave it to him, his gov, and his maker. He is doing good things now but I also understand the posts above. I'm just torn on this and I truely believe in cap. punishment. I do think that sooner than later would have made this a very easy choice. The law is the law - wonder how his victims family feel? I hear he says he really didn't do this crime - wonder what the info on all that is......course don't matter his time is up and we will all be watchin for the next 12 or so hours.

Now this will give every other person in Cali an EXCUSE to riot and steal a new tv for xmas....at the taxpayers expense of course. WHY do the taxpayers always have to be the one that lose????

Taking Tookie's life tonight won't bring back the Hundreds of murders through his prior actions; but taking Tookie 8760 nights ago might have deterred some of them.

If we are going to continue to think of the Death Penalty as a deterrant, it must be executed in a timely manner.

that's a good point lurker. but i dont understand the death penalty..especially when advocated by prolifers.

why do we kill the people that kill other people in order to prove that killing is wrong?!
