Good idea. I just sent him the link to this thread. in subject line of the email I wrote "this should interest the senator, it's about him." Do you think there is a snoball's chance in hell that he will personally read it?

I also sent the same letter stating my concerns about illegal immigration and the fact that if we weren't going to do what was needed that we needed stricter control of gov't programs and identification verification to see that they were actually U.S. citizens and entitled to these programs to Senator Roberts. I received his reply today, and this is what he had to say.

Quote:
Thank you for your comments regarding the 2006 budget reconciliation
process and your support of the food stamp program. I appreciate your
taking the time to write on this important issue.

Recently, President Bush signed the 2006 Agriculture spending bill (P.L.
109-97) into law. In 2006, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will
receive over $58 billion for food and nutrition programs, the food stamp
program and the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants
and Children (WIC). Specifically, the food stamp program will receive $40
billion next year, an increase of $5.5 billion from 2005.

Earlier this year, the Senate Agriculture Committee approved its version
of the 2006 budget reconciliation package (S. 1932) that includes
reductions in spending for many USDA programs. it is important to note
that this legislation does not include cuts to food stamps and nutrition
programs. The House recently approved its version of this bill, which
includes reductions to food stamps benefits over the next five years. The
budget measure awaits consideration by a House/Senate conference where
differences between the two bills will be worked out.

As Congress continues to debate the budget, you may rest assured I will
keep in mind your support for food stamps and the important safety net
that this program provides. Again, thanks for writing.

With every best wish,

Sincerely,

Pat Roberts
He's thanking me for my support of the food stamp program! Get REAL If this is the kind of representation we are getting, I think it's time to look for somebody that will actually represent the wishes of the people that they are suppose to be representing.

The only real connection Pat Roberts has to Kansas it that he was an aid to old man Sebelius... in Washington. He fit into the political machine and has rested there ever since.

In order to get another response from him use key words like: Stop Spending, Fight Illegal Immigration, Border, Terrorists and any other tags for the reply generator to grab another boiler plate response. See what happens.

It's fun to use politically inkorekt words too. Important: don't threaten him or his cronies in any way, shape or form... unless you like to get uninvited company.

You mentioned government programs so the staffer threw it in the “budget” bucket for the standard budget form letter. It probably would have been just as effective if the whole body of the letter read;

Stop illegal immigration.

You could try that and see which form letter they send just for grins.

Illegal immigration bucket, add one.

OK, I just sent new emails to both Sen. Brownback & Sen. Roberts. For the topic of this letter I chose "other". Here is the new letter that I wrote in response to their response to me. What do you think?

The last letter I sent must have had the wrong topic, because the form letter I got back had nothing to do with the content of my letter.

What I was asking about, and hopefully the aide that reads this will get it to you, was that if the U.S. Government isn't going to take the steps necessary to put a stop to illegal immigration the government could at least put a stop to government assistance to illegals by verifying identification to see that they are citizens and actually eligible to receive the benefits.

Since you are supposed to be representing the wishes of the citizens in the State of Kansas your personal attention in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully, I will get a response that is a little closer to the topic of my letter this time.

Reply from Rep. Jerry Moran

Today I got a call from Rep. Jerry Moran's aide in his office, I was informed of the passage in the house of H.R. 4437{edited}, and was told that there were about 23 different amendments in that bill, from constructing a wall on the border, to employers having to do a better job of verifying, to helping with giving local law enforcement more power to pick up and hold illegals. I talked on the phone with the aide for about 5-6 minutes. I also asked if anything was known about how the Senate felt about the bill, and was told that the Senate was going to take a serious look at illegal immigration issues after the first of the year.

At least the aides in Jerry Moran's office got the intent from my email I sent to them and had somebody call me. They didn't send out a completely off topic letter as a reply.

Makes me think that Jerry Moran might be worth keeping for awhile longer. As far as both U.S. Senators go, I think it's time to send them off with the dirty diapers!!
