My Recent letter to Sam Brownback & Pat Roberts

I recently wrote our U.S. Senator Sam Brownback. In that letter I expressed to him my concerns about illegal immigration. I don't remember exactly what I wrote, but it was along the lines of...

if the US government isn't going to take the necessary steps to put an end to illegal immigration the least they could do is perform stricter identification verification to people applying for and receiving government assistance in the way of food stamps, medical assistance etc. To make sure that they are in fact U.S. citizens and are truely eligible to recieve this assistance. The illegals that drain our tax dollars by stealing American jobs and entitlements that are meant for U.S. citizens is a huge drain on our economy and budget. I for one am tired of my tax dollars going to somebody that isn't really eligible to receive them.

I got a letter from him today in response. It reads as follows:

Quote:
Thank you for taking the time to contact me regarding the federal budget. I always appreciate hearing from my fellow Kansans.

Federal tax dollars are a finite resource, and when considering their allocation, it is essential that I hear from Kansans such as yourself. The insights that you provide on the various needs across our state are essential, and I certainly take them into consideration as I determine how to vote on legislation that would provide funding for various priorities.

I also believe it is important for us to eliminate government waste, and trim the federal bureaucracy. That is why I have introduced legislation that would create a commission to annually review all non-defensive spending by the federal government and then make recommendations to eliminate wasteful spending. By reducing or eliminating inefficient and unnecessary programs in the federal government, we will be able to both further lower tax rates, and concentrate funding where it is most needed.

Again, thank you for taking the time to contact me, and rest assured that I will keep your thoughts in mind as the Senate considers the federal budget.
Now I may be a dum kuntry boy, but I don't see where he actually answered anything about my concerns. A typical politician, giving a big answer that doesn't really answer anything. It just skirts the issues.

I did find it amusing that he talked about how important it was to eliminate government waste, and trim the federal bureaucracy. Then, in the next sentance he brags about how he introduced legislation to create a commission to review non-defensive spending. How is creating another government commission trimming the federal bureaucracy?

I am thinking this is one politician who has become to full of himself and is due for a change! Read my first sig line for clarification.

Man he really talked up the old BS. I kept waiting to see something about the illegals but he danced right around the whole topic. All I saw was a bunch of political double talk and .

Do they(illegals) REALLY steal our jobs or do they take the jobs no one else wants to do? Personally...I wouldn't pick fruit or work in the killing area at Excel for 10.00 an hour. It's not like they are coming over here and becoming bank presidents, school teachers, consultants, computer programmers, nurses, police officers, or whatever...the jobs people want. They DO put a strain on the economy but I would argue the point about stealing the jobs. If they weren't here i'm sure we could hire people to work at excel doing what they do but not for 10 -11 bucks an hour. They would want 20 bucks an hour and then the plant would end up moving somewhere else to the cheaper employment OR a pound of hamburger would cost you 6 bucks...pick your poison.

All he did was send you a pre generated form letter that he already had saved on his computer that generally addressed spending- probably wasn't even sent by him- more likely his secretary. He sure didn't take the time to address your specific letter. Least he could have done is address your letter directly instead of zipping off a form letter that was totally non-specific and not really answering your concerns.

It's not just Excel and Dodge City I was talking about. They come over here and take many construction jobs too. Look back at a recent thread about the Walmart construction site and all the illegals that the contractor had working for him. Those illegals were taking away jobs that Americans would and could fill. It's just that the employer chose to hire an illegal to fill some of those positions and I'm sure the illegals weren't making as much money as the legal workers working next to them. By hiring the illegals at a lower wage means that more profits go in the corporate coffers.

I'm just being the devils advocate here.....but suppose this guy gets at least 25 letters a day...which with all the disgrunted Kansan's I would say that is probably a conservative estimate...you can't realistically expect this guy to answer each mail and email himself. I will say that the form letter that Bubba got is pretty much crap and it should be personalized somewhat but with his schedule and such he can't answer all his mail. Maybe a phone call would be good?

The fact that someone does take time to write though is great and it's much better to complain and take action than to complain and do nothing.

This is drifting off Bubba's thread, but illegals don't "steal" our jobs. They allow corporations in America to pay for cheap illegal labor rather than pay what the average American worker would expect as fair compensation for that type of job. Therefore illegals keep the wage low and the demand high for illegal, unskilled labor.

That's far worse than stealing - it's knocking out the possiblitly for legal citizens to have the job at a fair wage that will be there whether the illegals are there or not. Illegals remove the opportunity for American workers. The real tragedy in all this is the corporations are allowed to do this and encouraged to do it by the steady stream of illegal workers. I don't understand why there isn't a higher standard of morals in the corporate setting.

Can't disagree with you on that point. It's just a double edged sword though. What about THE jobs no one wants to do? That's why a guest worker program of some type might be OK.

That's because in the corporate world there is no "GOD" and there are no MORALS. Corporations today worship money. With a few exceptions, the majority of business today is after more and more profit at any cost!
