Lawmaker says coal plant emissions will aid crops | cough, cough

Hutchinson News Online Garden City Rep. Larry Powell says coal plant emissions will aid crops:

Garden City Rep. Larry Powell forgets to say his source is paid by coal industry. Oh, yes, and that he doesn't drink water, I guess, and clearly doesn't need air.

Darn it, now we look both stupid and greedy. Bad enough when we just looked dumb due to the anti-evolution fundamentalist -- but at least they weren't trying to own DNA. These greed heads don't care about any of us. Just money to them. (That's because the rich live forever, right ?Thankfully, not ... )

OK oldtimer, here is some high school biology for you. CO2 does help plants. It is something most of us learned in school, it is that little process called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the biological synthesis of chemical compounds in the presence of light. It plays a major role in the plant's process of creating oxygen.

Next, lets talk a little more about global warming and climate change. It is FAR from a fact that CO2 causes global warming. The article states that CO2 causes golbal warming and/or climate change. When history shows, by the scientific study of the ice core samples, that temperature change actually precedes CO2 increases in the atmosphere. Thus it would be scientifically correct to state that increased temperatures cause an increase of CO2. Not the other way around. Could it be that increased temperatures cause global warming? Why is the temperature on Mars increasing? Are there a bunch of power plants and factories on Mars emitting CO2 to cause global warming on Mars? Or, would a better explanation be that there has been a change in the output of the Sun that is causing increasing temperatures on Earth as well as Mars and other planets.

How do you propose we get our electricity? The power grid is getting very old and running at almost full capacity. Yet, the power consumption goes up consistently every year. Most everybody is hooked on their computers, cell phones(gotta charge them when they run down), video games, HDTV's, DVD players, stereo's, reading lights, refridgerators, deep freeze's, etc. Are you willing to sit in the dark without power for all these things if we don't have power plants that run on fossil fuels?

Think back this past week. There were at least two days that the wind was blowing so hard that the wind generators were shut down and not producing electricity. There was also at least one day that the wind wasn't blowing hard enough to spin the wind generators to produce electricity. That means, without fossil fuel power plants, everyone would have sat at home and work in the dark without modern appliances for at least three of the last six days. That would mean, for the mathematically challenged, 50% of the time the last six days you would have been sitting around with no electricity. No TV, no computers, no video games, no cell phones(cell towers run on electricity), no lights besides a candle or lantern to read by.

Are you ready for that?

Sounds like fun to me! No power, just shut her down and everybody head for the bar!! Actually, why do we not promote nuclear power plants in the US, but we try to stop everyone else from using them too? Nuclear fuel lasts for a Looooooooooooooong time, if handled right it doesn't pollute, and requires no wind or fossil fuels.
