I emailed Mr. V asking him to do an article on the "other side" of the coin concerning the cost of illegal immigration to the community both socially and economically and to perhaps snag some quotes from some local, TAXPAYING citizens. You know it's incredible that they let some lady that might be here illegally have a voice in the paper but the local citizens that pay taxes every day don't get asked how THEY feel.

Papers are supposed to be submitted BEFORE they enter the country, not after. Anyone applying from within this country without the proper documents to be here in the first place should be arrested and deported. There are thousands of good folks that submitted application papers the right way and have waited for years for approval. Those folks should be here first, not the ones that cut into the line and slipped across the boarder after dark.

| The main problem I see with the vigils is that all these illegals are banding together, flying their flags, giving their sob stories in front of the television camera, and decrying "what about the children!" which is a favorite phrase for any cause in the political spectrum. These are the things that everyone across the US gets to see on television giving the pro-illegal group the muscle it needs to affect political decisions. They can now tell a politician to stop enforcing immigration laws and give amnesty "or else" they will line the streets with protestors and hurt their reelection chances. What I don't see is US citizens holding mass vigils or protests of comparable size voicing their concerns and saying "what about the children!" I read the postings in this forum as well as others, read news articles about the plight of identity theft victims (how else do the undocumented get documented), and victims of crime by the hands of illegals. There was a nice article reported online about how the border patrol agents are getting attacked by bands of illegals throwing rocks, shooting at them, or assaulting them all under the guise of making a better life for themselves. That motto of wanting to make a better life "for them" is a self-serving attitude especially when it hurts the rest of society in order to make their life better. The drug trade can be narrowed to the border, MS-13 and other such gangs simply walk over and destroy once civilized neighborhoods, and the threat of terrorist infiltration is always present. There are some groups that protest illegal immigration such as the minute man project but nowhere near the size of the pro-illegal groups. Remember the "day without immigrants" rallies a few years ago? How about "a day without legals?" Now that would literally shut down the country so politicians could notice that citizens are tired of it. On a smaller scale, how about going to Wright park someday for an organized protest. Light a candle for each crime victim and identity theft victim and I guarantee there would be enough candle light to be seen from space. |

| We get the boo hoo stories up here too. They highlighted the plight of a young mother who was an illegal (apparently legally married to a citizen and had a child here). She's had more than one opportunity to apply for citizenship, but didn't because she didn't want them to know she was here and illegal. I sympathize with them, but for every one of those stories, I think they should highlight one American worker out of a job that's been replaced with an illegal worker. I wonder if that would change the tide of the pansy Dems.
