Our founding fathers were also able to brew their own liquor. I don't know what that has to do with breaking laws today? Key word being breaking laws. If the people from Puerto Rico are not breaking any laws then I say welcome to Dodge City.

And for the record. Just because they have taxes taken out of their checks doesn't mean they aren't screwing the system and coming out of our pockets. These people never file taxes. If they did they'd be paying in out the wazzu because they have the minimum amount taken out, knowing they have no plans to file, so they make far more than they pay in.

The good old days before immigration laws are long gone. If that’s an argument for ignoring today’s immigration laws then let’s apply that to a few more of todays laws.

Also back in the frontier days there was a bounty paid for Indian scalps. Often when there wasn’t any Indians handy Mexican scalps were passed off as Indian.

Before the Civil War income tax didn’t exist so is OK if we chose not to pay it?

After WWI we could buy full-auto Thomson machine guns mail order without filling out government forms and paying a transfer tax. Can we ignore those laws too?

If there wasn’t so many illegals here taking jobs there would be a shortage of labor and wages would be higher. Also the demand for legal immigrants would pressure the government to speed up the process of getting legal immigrants into the country. Those folks that filled out the papers and got in line to do it the right way are the biggest losers and its their own countrymen that are screwing them over.

BUBBA for president! Good move. Many of us are wanting to find a way to voice our thoughts on immigration. The globe needs to do an article with some of us.

I thought it odd that the vigil was for injustice. What??? The only injustice is the fact that you are here illegally! Justice is served by proper deportation of illegal immigrants.

Regarding the taxes and illegal immigration, they do pay taxes using Taxpayer ID Numbers (TIN). The idea is the government can collect taxes from illegals where they once couldn't before and keep the IRS from going after the real person for unpaid taxes. There is a big problem though.

An illegal using TIN's can continue to work in another person's identity, obtain the W-2's from the employer, and file taxes in their real name provided they have a TIN. Yes, this is true. The person can claim however many dependents they want on their W-4 (deducts taxes from paycheck) and at tax time, they list out their dependents just like everyone else. The problem is the IRS allows them to file taxes for dependents even living in Mexico or Canada with no real way to verify if they are being claimed as dependents in those countries. By law, the IRS cannot share information on the tax returns with law enforcement so in other words, they are aware that an illegal is using another persons name, allow them to file a tax return, and get tax refunds. As we all know, you need an ID to cash a check so they get a tax refund check, use the stolen name to cash the check, and the wheel keeps turning.

For those of you familiar with Earned Income Credit and how it works, then heres the kicker. Suppose you are an illegal, you claim 6 dependents on your W-4 and its time to file. On the tax return you may have a total tax obligation of say a couple thousand. Since you are claming 6 dependents and working at the plants not making much on an hourly scale. Combine this with the dependents in calculating the Earned Income Credit and kapow! The person can pay little out of their paycheck towards taxes (based on exemptions claimed), get a huge refund at the end of the year, and continue working in a stolen name!

Today's Globe article about the vigil.

DodgeCity.com: Dodge Globe: Local News: Stories

The subtitle of the article online was - Vigil draws attention to recent immigration raids

BIG typo there!! They don't raid immigrants in this country, they raid illegals! How could the Globe do that to us tax-paying citizens? Printing quotes from a Sister Doll as if it was fact and not even pointing out in the article that she misspoke.

Luckily, there is a place at the bottom of the article to leave feedback on the online version. Needless to say, I utilized their feedback option today on that article. This is what I wrote in...

Quote:
It offends me that you(the Globe) would draw more attention to this by printing an article in the paper. There is nothing wrong with having immigrants in this country. What the article falsely states is there have been immigration raids. What it should have said is that there have been raids against illegal immigrants.

It also offends me to see a quote from Sister Gemma Doll that is not rebutted with the facts. She stated that the ones arrested "were not criminals." I am positive the government wouldn't have arrested them if they weren't in the country illegally. If they are in the country illegally, they ARE criminals.

How about writing and printing an article in the paper about the "other side of the coin?" Print how the legal, tax-paying citizens are tired of all the crime, free school-lunches, free and low-cost health care and increased insurance premiums that we pay for because of all the illegal immigrants.

Yeah...I'm not sure where the Globe is going with this article. I would LIKE to THINK that they would print something from the opposite view to stay balanced. If they don't then it makes them look like a paper that is sympathetic to illegals and eventually that may bite them in the ass. I don't believe the average tax paying citizen wants to read how afraid or worried the illegals are. They want to hear what is being DONE by the city and county to FIX the PROBLEM......

I am interested to know

Those of you discussing this issue. Do you consider yourselves to be Christians? Do you participate in an organized religion? What do your church leaders say about the issues surrounding immigration in this country? Thanks for your response.

Shouldn't really matter...As an American you need to obey the laws of America.
