And thats my point. What if the world was forced to acknowledge global warming was occuring? Then the debate becomes is it man made, or a natural cycle? Now just imagine, because this is just speculation, but IMAGINE its man made. All the vehicle and industrial crap we're kicking up is warming up the globe. Pressure would be put on car companys to make more hybrid or "green" vehicles. They use less gas. Who's best intrest is that NOT in? Exxon. Chevron. OPEC.

So if you're a big oil company, and you LOVE mega bucks, then why would you point out that global warming is occuring? You wouldn't. In fact, if you were a SHADDY big oil company, or someone involved in making money from big oil, you might even go so far as to try to cover this up. Saying things like, well, we don't know for SURE that global warming is happening, it could be just a natural trend. It could be a freak thing, and the globe will cool off in a few years. And they could be right. But look at the data. Study the numbers, think for yourself. Then see what you think.

I think you're right Sarge. I don't think anyone doubts we are in a warming trend, what they doubt is that it's the results of man.

While I have little doubt that man has helped speed things up, ever so slightly, to think Mother Nature isn't in control is a bigger mistake. Global warming is going to happen no matter what man does so we best be preparing instead of trying to play God.

Thanks Detector, I thought I was talking to myself there for a while. So what can we do to prepare? Are hybrid cars and emissions restrictions a good idea? Will they help? What about the Kyoto Agreement? Opinions anyone?

I agree with Detector, and will go a step further in stating that information gets harder and harder to swallow when it has been bastardize by lies for political/financial gain. That is pretty much the way all information is, anymore.
Decreasing our dependence on oil has many gains as well as helping our environment. But clearer and more complete research needs to be done before getting rid of everything done by humans. I really feel that a great portion of "global warming" is due to the fact that the earth is evolving. In looking at the charts you posted, it would be interesting to go back further than what is recorded (yes, that isn't possible). What would those graphs look like?

That stuff will cost $$$$$. You pay a lot more for a hybrid car. If you want emissions restrictions on the coal plants it will cost you more in electricity costs...way more. For a coal plant to reduce their emissions by just a little bit it costs millions and millions in technology that will be passed on to the consumer. I believe if we want to use less oil it's not about buying little hybrid cars...it's about changing out entire lifestyle....public transportation/bicycles etc. Ever been to Europe? In Germany most families have one MAYBE two cars and most of them use the public trans system which is clean and nice.

As far as preparing. What we need to do, in my opinion, is look to the past and prepare for the possibilities. Although we have only been keeping official records for a little over a hundred years, which in no way should be used as a future guide, we do know what Mother Nature has done in the past.

Here is an email I got from Mother Nature just a few weeks ago.

MIME TYPE: PLAIN TEXT
FROM: Mother Nature
TO: Detector
CC: Al Gore

SUBJECT: Global Warming
BODY: Dear Detector,

Hows it going? Going good here thanks.

About this Global Warming thing. I appreciate the concerns that Mr. the Sky is Falling Gore has brought to the public eye, but honestly, it has become rather annoying. You'd think after 4.5 billion years of weather ranging from extreme hot to extreme cold it would be obvious shit happens. Apparently not. So let me enlighten you with a bit of information you might want to pass on.

Why you you might ask? As a DodgeBoard member I'm sure the information will be passed along.

First off I want to say, while man has become comfortable in it's belief of total control over it's environment, let me assure you when I choose to change things, they WILL change. Man, in all his wisdom, does seem to be a rather slow learning. Life on Earth will come and go and I make those decisions, not you.

Oh and by the way. You know that Buffalo slated for extinction that you pride yourself in saving? That buffalo eats the wild long grass that was hindering the evolution of the Pocket Mouse due to move into it's next stage of evolution. Stop trying to play God. Things come and go. Deal with it because man is also on that list. Just food for thought!

So here is the deal. If I were you I'd be more concerned about the coming Ice Age than a little heat wave. Your Kansas, like all places on Earth, has seen the lush beauty of the tropics as well as Glaciers the size of mountains. One Dinosaur produced more carbon monoxide in it's breath than a fleet of Mac trucks, and I won't bother to mention the toxic remains it would leave from a single stop to urinate or pass gas. So don't flatter yourself into thinking you're in control of your environment. The Dinosaur lived for 10 million years. You are but a child.

In conclusion let me say get over yourself. When I say its time to leave, you will proceed to the nearest exit believe me. When I decide it's time for a weather change, IT WILL CHANGE. Also, quit screwing with the species. I have a plan and it doesn't involve you. When it does I'll let ya know, k?

RoCk oN!

Yours Truly, Mother Nature
