sad, isn't it, when people feel the only way they can make a name for themselves is to commit a crime. Where are the cameras and the media when somebody does something great? We've had Secret Santa up here for years. He finally passed last year. Before he died, he passed on his legacy to a friend and it continues. Don't see much press on that kind of thing.

From what I heard, the security guard volunteered to be there after news from the Denver shooting was aired. Don't cuss the media all the time. Sometimes information helps others take appropriate action. Would you rather not know any bad stuff that goes on?

Police are not releasing any information about what kind of weapon was used in the attack. 9NEWS has learned the gunman was dressed with a tactical helmet and body armor.

Security Guard Hailed A Hero

The gunman was killed by a member of the church's volunteer security staff before police arrived.

"He never got more than 50 feet inside our building," said Boyd. "(Our security guard) rushed toward the attacker and took him down in the hallway. She probably saved 100 lives."

He called her "a real hero" because the gunman "had enough ammunition on him to cause a lot of damage."

The security guard was a woman in plain clothes who volunteers with the church and uses her own personal weapon, Boyd said. She has a law enforcement background and is licensed to carry a weapon. She attends one of the morning services and then volunteers as a guard during another service, he said.

Boyd said she was the one who suggested the church beef up its security Sunday following the Arvada shooting, which it did. The pastor credited the security plan and the extra security for preventing further bloodshed.

I just got home and caught the tail end of another school shooting. What is wrong with people? It makes me sick and scared to death that I have a son. Is my son or someone you know going to be next? I think we should all try to go out and get a C & C. I can't go to church, school, or shop without wondering is someone going to start shooting. The no C & C sign should be ripped down and new sign put up. The sign should read customers are packing and will shoot you if you try to shoot up this business. When is it going to stop? I used to be a cop in Kansas and never left my house off duty without carrying my gun. The only thing rules do is keep honest people honest and put them in danger from the ones who do not give a sh*t.
