I can live with that - LOL Perhaps that will be the loophole that she gets thru. I'm sure she's not the type of kid that would have shanked someone - in some schools hell they use thier writing appliances as weapons. Good story tho Bubba - thanks for posting it!

you gan't bring knives of any sort to school....pocket knives, switch blade, bowie, etc. I'm sure there is a rule in the school districts book that says you can't bring a knife to school. They put knife to cover all types of knives, so they won't have to go through and put down every type of knife known to man....people love to find loopholes and test them out.

Zero tolerance sucks. In middle school in our expresive arts class(basically the acting class) we couldnt take the prop weapons out into the hallway to stage what we would do. In highschool a couple of us made some tommy guns out of cardboard as props for a basketball game and then later we made six shooters. Ms. Feist told us that she should have taken the tommy guns from us and asked if we would keep the pistols in the holsters.

Sometimes there are admins or teachers who think they've got to be the heroes of the rule book and slam kids on things. I can think of a couple of teachers at the high school that would slam me for things while others would let it slide. I think it's just a part of teacher's being power hungry and wanting to get people in trouble for petty acts...i feel the same with some police officers.

There is good and bad wherever ya go. Problem is when ya run into power mongers - they have the school regs to back them up. Does it make them bad because they enforce the regs for everyone or does it make it confusing when they enforce the rules for some and not others. The regs aren't there to be "interpreted" based on the event. They are there to be enforced for all - no matter who you are. Some have gotten so burned by "letting some slide" that they do become power mongers. I know it happens with many teachers and some cops. To me the power cops are the worse! I hate a power monger cop!

There is only one standard. The bottom line is that some enforce the standard and some don't. If a kid walks by 4 teachers with his clothing obviously in violation of the dress code and the 5th teacher stops him and makes a correction is that teacher a power hungry teacher or is he just doing the right thing (his job) when the others failed to do it.

It's not about being right or wrong. I think you making a cardboard prop is ok but if the rules made under the stupid "no tolerance" laws are such then they have to abide by the rules. The problem with the whole thing is the no tolerance laws that remove common sense. My point was though if someone enforces the standard it doesn't make them a Nazi...they are just doing what they are supposed to do.

They are only Nazis IF they don't enforce for everyone........... OMG - I think that's how Zero Tolerance came about. Same rules for everyone!!! What a novel idea! - No special treatment that sometimes we like to call "common sense". It's common sense to follow the rules all the time - keeps the attorneys off your ass!

I go to the high school once in awhile. Although there are set standards some teachers don't enforce them and some do. I see that every day. Kids can go into some teacher's class rooms and clown around, use cell phone's or whatever and other teachers don't allow it. Wrong is wrong. If a teacher see's something happening the is wrong all they are doing is enabling that person. Some of them don't have the moral courage or such to enforce the standard. The standard should be enforced across the board by everyone.

Zero tolerance in schools is akin to mandatory sentencing for judges. Circumstances no longer are to be considered. But if we keep both at least our economy can continue to hum along building more and more prisons and hiring more guards.

A: This child will not be charged I would bet. Since the parents could not be contacted then she was taken away because those are the proceedures.

B: No knives means just that, no knives. What if someone else got ahold of that knife? If the rules are a mandatory suspension for bringing it to school, then she gets suspended.
