"It's just a fascinating project," he said. "It's more than just a casino. What we're developing out there is going to be a lot more than a casino and hotel."

Joseph said he believes Dodge City can develop into a tourism destination like Branson, Mo.

"To me, the best place to do this is Dodge City," he said. "It's a brand name."
I've been saying this very same thing for years! This guy looks, at first glance, like he has the proper vision of what it should and could be. He might not have the clouded judgment that seems to prevail with the local "good 'ol boy" network. As in, how can I get money in my pocket by doing this. Instead of doing it right and being patient then the money will follow.

Looks like at least someone shares my view of Dodge City's potential.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. A casino will turn this town upside down. And in a good way.

I have thought that also. "Dodge City" just the name and history would bring folks. It could be a gold mine for everyone if handled correctly.

Wonder how Branson did it . It was just a spot in the road at one time.

"First glance" are the key words. Have a little patience Bubba and ask a lot of questions - I think you will find this to be a bit different when you know all the players and what their exact plans are. It's the local's and Butler that seem to 'have done it right' - by being very open to everyone and putting more money back into Dodge and SW Kansas. There are strong differences between the two casino plans - Butler is focused on retail and entertainment development and bought their land. Joseph is focused on large ag-facility development wtih a truck stop and has an option on the land with Harding.

Dodge City Resorts shows up in the last days and looks like they're here to save us. I doubt that - show me the plan (all of it), then we'll know who's who. Long Branch gaming has included Bob Knight, Larry Steckline, and others who are not here to 'save us'. They smelled the money.

I think it would be a bit naive not to realize all these people are here from "the smell of money" not to save dodge. What I think is important, that our city officials seems to be missing, is that Dodge city IS like no other city. Our "brand name" is our most important tool.

So do we play follow the leader, using other cities(Lawrence) as the leader, or blaze our own path?

Exactly!! The casino decision will be made by Lottery and the review committee in Topeka, BUT, local endorsement and involvement will weigh heavily on their decision. The problem is our City-County's inability to make a decision and always looking for a brighter rainbow.

I'm glad we have two casino projects to look at because their impact on local tax revenues (sales & property) and retail development should be considerably different.

If and when they build A CASINO in DC, I hope its not one of them shithole double wides they setup in Oklahoma and stick it in ourass for 200 million. If they build one, hope they go all out and build it right the first time. But with local fingers in the dip thats what will get is a big-A-hole reaming so grab the lotion and bend over folks.
