Foreign companies already own too much of the US. Look at a map of Kansas, and how much of it is foreign owned anymore. One of these days, the foreigners are going to call the debt due, and I will fight to the end to keep them from taking me!!
Yeah...when you buy that "american made ford" ultimately Ford gets the profit but a lot of the cars and parts are made/assembled outside the US. A lot of the "foreign" owned car companies use US auto workers to assemble the cars.

The car makers have a responsibility. Ford and GM can't continue to expect to make money with the sole fact that they should "buy American" especially when they are making an inferior product. We have moved towards a global economy and personally if I am going to drop 25 or 30 grand on a new car I want the best bang for my buck and in most cases it is not with Ford or GM. I understand you have a ford with a bazillion miles on it but that is the EXCEPTION not the rule. If you look up the consumer reports on cars and trucks while Fords are decent domestic cars they pale in comparison to the Japanese and even Korean made cars/trucks in most cases. By the way Ford moved into 3rd place behind a Japanese automaker. QUALITY counts buddy.

True, the money actually is paid to a foreign auto maker, but the bulk of it comes back in terms of payroll and parts expense to the United States. I don't mind paying for foreign ingenuity or performance nearly as much as I hate paying for bad service and inferior quality here at home. Let me put it to you another way. Do you buy meals or groceries from "foreign" (outside Dodge City) store owners? Then can you say you spend your money locally? It's pretty much the same thing on a different scale.

When was the last time they made a profit?!!??!!!!? The last I saw on the news, they haven't made a profit in years.

They(Ford and GM) haven't "expected" to make money in quite awhile. The best they can hope for is to dig themselves out of the money pit they have sometime soon.

The money is paid to a foreign company but just like buying anything else it stimulates the ecomomy. LIke buying a t.v. or a car. SOmeone has sell it, ship it etc. Most quality electronics are made in Japan also. If America wants to be competitive they should look into making QUALITY products to compete with other countries. Name one thing that America has top quality in besides their military?

Speaking of electronics....I saw the other day that the last American electronics (TV and stereos) company, ZENITH, was bought out by LG.....that leaves no American companies making TV's and stereo equipment. At least to my knowledge (limited as it is).

Actually Ford has a 750 million dollar profit in the 3rd quarter but overall they suck...

The page I found showed the $750 million profit in the 2nd quarter (ending 06/07) and the 3rd quarter (ending 09/07) was back to a -$380 million. Scroll down to look at total net income...

It almost makes me think that the big profit in that quarter was due to some new accounting method that hid some numbers than it was to just some good hard work at turning things around.....
