Jaguar to become a "TaTa"--

Tata picked as top Jaguar bidder
By TOM KRISHER
AP Auto Writer

DETROIT - Ford Motor Co. picked India's Tata Motors Ltd. as the top bidder for its Jaguar and Land Rover units, the Detroit automaker said Thursday.

Ford has entered into "focused negotiations at a more detailed level" with Tata, the company said in a statement, meaning Tata has become the preferred bidder for the storied British automakers.

"We will proceed with further substantive discussions with Tata Motors over the forthcoming weeks with a view to securing an agreement that is in the best interests of all parties concerned," Lewis Booth, executive vice president of Ford's European units, said in a statement.

Jaguar and Land Rover employees in the United Kingdom were told about the negotiations Thursday morning shortly before the company made the announcement.

Ford executives have said they expect to sell the two British automakers early this year.

Oh Boy!!! Now instead of going out and climbing into your "prestigious Jaguar", you can jump into your "TaTa--Made in India"!

Jags used to be a hot car with sales increasing big time in 00 and 01. I guess Ford found a way to mismanage that too. Maybe Ta Ta will do a better job. The foreign automakers know something about making good cars. Not sure about the cars made in India but if they are anything like Honda or Toyota they will do much better than Ford.

As the lady said, as she exited the plastic surgeons office to climb into her new Jaguar, "Anybody wanna see my new TaTa's"?

Seriously, let's go back to the original topic. Does anybody know how BAD - REALLY BAD Jags are? So, all Ford did was make them worse. Now they're trying to sell them? They bought Volvo - now I wouldn't have one. I'll drive my 4WD, but not their cars. Hubby's sucks. An he's dead set against buying a different one. Poor stupid guy.

Right now if you are not buying a Toyota or a Honda you are (in most cases) probably not getting the best deal for your money and you are probably getting an inferior product.

Actually the "American" made auto's outsource their parts and assembly so by "buying American" made auto's you are not really doing any workers here any favors and getting a substandard car in the process (in most cases). On the OTHER hand...

That's not really where I was trying to get....Most of the parts of my VW were made in the US and assembled in the US. I don't know how long they've been doing that; I noticed it in some of the books that were in the glove compartment. It is German engineered and that's where the quality of the car starts. That's about the only part that's not 'made in the US'. If it lasts nearly as long as my last one did, I'll have it paid off years before I even think about selling it. That's what I'm talking about - the pieces parts aren't any different than what we see in US cars (Ford/Chevy). In fact, the paint job isn't really as good as American cars. But they're engineered so much better and the value is higher. Honda and Toyota are the same way.

So maybe in the long run, I'm running my purchase price through a foreign company, but I'm still supporting the American auto workers with my purchase of a "foreign" car. I still feel patriotic - even if just a little bit.....

And who gets the money?? The owner does, and the owner is foreign! I will not deny that some of the foreign cars are good cars, however I personally will still buy American. I have Fords and Chevys that have over 300,000 miles on them, and are still running fine. And when you need parts, they are readily available at a reasonable price.

Foreign companies already own too much of the US. Look at a map of Kansas, and how much of it is foreign owned anymore. One of these days, the foreigners are going to call the debt due, and I will fight to the end to keep them from taking me!!
