| Living in Texas and being raised here - pretty much sums up our worries about errors! It's sad when it happens but sure don't deter the killing in the streets much so I would just say ............................ oooooops!

| yeah but we get it right most the time. Very few are errors when you get to the table! Obviously not enough to slow down the process. The only reason I know of that they even discuss a stop is when a crime lab comes under scrutiny - Houston's has been a mess the past few years but usually that involves letting drug convictions out. By the time the appeals are exhausted they have involved more than one lab anyway. The gov doesn't execute anyone - it's always a jury of their peers. I figure if 12 of them feel you deserve the death penalty - then so be it. Granted there are some errors as has been proven but overall the system works and I just rest easier knowing that some of those that have passed won't be able to walk the streets again. It's just too easy to slip out of prison sometimes - at least "death row" keeps them on a tighter lock down. They still get loose sometimes during clinic appts and such but for the most part they are kept separate. I tell ya the mistakes you can count on one hand in my opinion. Course I agree with the quick justice of a rope too. I think it should be after the trial but a rope would work for me - perhaps then they could see the "humanity" of the needle. They can have whatever method they choose for my tax money! Altho when it's your time to walk the green mile - ya need to just walk it and leave the lawyers behind. I promise ya the mistakes are few. I know those opposed to the death penalty are passionate about thier view points - course so are the victims families -

| The death penelty is the ultimate retribution and revenge. Bundy, BTK, The Carr brothers, Gasey, Dahmer.........all deserve the death penalty for all are/were guilty without a doubt and there is no reason to keep them alive. That being said, until our justice system can garuntee to 100% that the guilty person is truly guilty and the appeals process is limited in time then the death penalty is flawed. I personally have seen two people here that are spending their lives in prison, and both are innocent. Until you have been involved, on both sides, of a jury trial.....you have no idea just how truly unfair it is. In a death case, the appeal is automatic.......but it does not garuntee the truth to come out.

| If wrongful rape convictions are any indication on what is gotten right and what isn't I wouldn't bet too much money on that statement. Quote:

| The error is in the system - not the 12 jurors that used the tools available at the time. I think you will find most over turns are due to new DNA evidence. Thier releases should be done but that doesn't mean they were falsly convicted at the time. A system is an evolving machine and it's only as good as the tools available at the time. It's a system that works and it's the system we use. I would rather have a few "falsly imprisoned" than have the rest of them that deserve to be there running the streets. That's why we have the organizations that we have for appeals. There is always going to be a certain level of injustice - same thing happens in war - hasn't seem to slow us down much has it? We still go to war and calculate the risk. Pretty much the same thing in the prison system. I worked with inmates too Dutchie - met some really compassionate inmates but when you are drunk, high, or mentally ill without proper intervention then you can really do some social damage. Not that they meant to or even remember the act but still the evidence (at the time) said they did the act. Also 12 peers agreed. That's good enough for me. I think we should always strive to do better but I don't think guilt is something I have for using the tools available at the time. I hope your innocent friends clear thier case and rejoin society soon - it's hard to be normal after living with the abnormal for any period of time. Course that's where the damage suits get started. Good luck to your buds!
