Q: Is it legal to shoot pigeons in town with a pellet gun? Someone keeps telling me that you can, but I'm not buying it. Thanks.

A: As tempting as it may be... no.
James Thompson, a detective with the Dodge City Police Department, said that isn't necessarily because it's illegal to shoot pigeons. It is, however, illegal to shoot a pellet gun within city limits.
"I know that for a fact," he said. "It references a city ordinance that specifically forbids you from discharging a pellet gun within the city."
So, you can tell your friend he or she is wrong. And to watch the itchy trigger finger from now on.

You gotta be kidding me? Is this a burning question on the minds of the good citizens of Dodge? Can I SHOOT PIGEONS WITH A PELLET GUN? Is NEWS in this town THAT fricking slow? I can think of about 100 different things to fill the paper up with besides THIS DRIVEL..sheeeesh. F- to the globe on this one...I felt like taking the paper back to the Globe and asking for my .50 back...lol

You can't shoot pigeons anymore with a B-B gun. However, it is OK to shoot innocent unarmed civilians, if you belong to certain "groups"!

I saw that too on my internet travels today - I just laughed to myself - I figured it's so windy and cold that the pigeons are hiding anyhow. Then I looked at who was writing this piece - how old is he 22??? No disrepect to Vierthaler but come on - pigeons in the middle of winter? I got a chuckle out of that piece as well then I got engrossed with the SORT action that was in town Friday night. What a couple of idiots - hiding in a house after they know you are there. What a waste of taxpayer money (the perps)- they ought to seriously take a look at the relative whose house they commendered for thier stand off.

Well, in all fairness, ther IS a big bird problem in thic city. I think there are way more birds than illegals.

But with the exception of some poop the birds don't have near the burdon on our society as the illegals...plus they aren't raping, driving w/ no license, fighting or gang banging. heheheh

The thing is he had a chance to talk to a police officer and could have asked him about gangs, crime...ANYTHING...and he asked him the obvious question everyone in town wants to know..>Can you shoot pigeons with a bb gun in the city limits. CRIPES!

The pigeon problem is pretty nasty downtown. They tried putting a "screecher" on top of the Government Center, but it doesn't seem to be doing too much good. The buildup of "pigeon poop" causes some nasty, unhealthy, and corrosive conditions to exist. Maybe they could try planting some "Wildcats"! Bubba could be the "Cat Advisor"!

If someone could prove those pigeons flew here illegally from MExico instead of trying to run them out of town they would be feeding them, giving them birdhouses and let them have the run of the town...all at someone else's expense.
