McCain

McCain won South Carolina....

He is giving a hell of a speech.

I wouldn't mind having an old "WAR HORSE" in the White House.

Key word here is "Old."

I guess even if he were to win and he ended up sucking as a president he likely won't make it past a single term.

Yeah I know.
They would have to make a good choice on the VP for sure.

I think Regan was well into his alzheimer's in his second term.

I don't think McCain will be elected, but I do like his military background.

I think I have gave up on getting the troops home. It is a "fairy tale" to think our troops will come home soon when we are building new bases and the largest Embassy in the world in the Bagdad " green zone.

Here is an old article from Fox News. (because they are so "fair and balanced")

FOXNews.com - U.S. Embassy in Iraq to Be World's Largest Ever - International News | News of the World | Middle East News | Europe News

So I recon no matter who is President. There will be troops in the middle east.

I respect McCain's military service as well. I think that it will take someone with some military alliance to end the war and bring the boys home successfully. Anybody can end the war, but to do so successfully will take some finesse and some military smarts. Unless Billary or Obama are willing to listen to their military advisers, we could well be in this thing for another 25 years. I don't get that willingness to listen to others in either of them. So we'll see.

I don't see the President as the end-all to all problems - he has to be smart enough to take advice and have a willing Congress behind him. We aren't electing one person, we're electing a whole government. I think that gets lost in all the ads.

I recon you’re right. There were troops in the Middle East the entire eight years that Clinton was in office and there will be troops there for the foreseeable future. How many and what level of involvement is the question. The Democrats would be more then happy to pull them out now and let things fall apart on Bush’s watch. But if a Dem is in the White House, whoever it is will not want it falling apart on their watch. The spin will change and the current plan for draw downs will probably remain unchanged.

You’re right about that. With the Hispanic population rapidly approaching majority status no politician wants to risk offending a group that large.
