Giving it away to China

A few weeks ago President Bush took some credit for a Boeing sale of some 7xx's to China's Airlines. What wasn't mentioned is that China is positioning themselves to become the world's manufacturer of aircraft; which means a loss of skilled jobs here in the USA.

Quote:
But China doesn't just want to buy planes. It wants to make them, too. That's where, for Wichita workers, opportunity courts concern.
It's nice to do business with someone, but why do we give them the technology too?

From today's Wichita Eagle: http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/13433001.htm

Maybe we are better off with our semi-skilled packinghouse economy.?

I've always felt that when you teach someone to do something for themselves instead of buying it from you, you deepen your relationship - for they are forever indebted to you. China is struggling to find ways to employ their people. If they can do it better, then we either need to improve our processes or step aside. Obviously, there's a struggle there - they have outdated processes and will have to spend untold millions of dollars to improve them, including upsetting an entire community.

I've been learning in the past couple of weeks that to grow, you have to be vigilant of other opportunities and ready to change. Change isn't popular, especially when we see a few years later that it wasn't the best deal for us, but it will happen even if we have to go along kicking and screaming.

So why not embrace it? If, in Wichita's case, they're afraid of being replaced by Chinese at a Chinese plant, then re-educate themselves in another line of work in the same industry or even a different industry. Besides, this plan of China's is at least 5 years down the road. That leaves a lot of time for changes.

Well they are buying oil refineries too so it's more than just planes they are in the market for. They want to be self sufficient like we used to be. It will all eventually mean that they are in World Trade. The idea is for every country to have a piece of Global trade. We all will have our part. If we quit whinnin and figure out how to "partner" instead of "wanting it all" then the plan would work. One country would not be sufficient without another. Coleman seems to reinvent itself nicely - I'm sure there is something we could learn here.

The Chinese are the ones who hold most of the bonds for our record high defecit. They keep buying them and we keep giving tax cuts to the rich making it possible for them to buy more.

Learn to speak Chinese so when they foreclose you can talk to your new bosses.
