Proposal would ban sale of imported flags

I could easily get behind something like this on a national level.

Proposal would ban sale of imported flags | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

Businesses could be fined as much as $625 for selling U.S. or Iowa flags made in other countries under legislation an eastern Iowa lawmaker plans to propose.

"I personally don't want my coffin draped in a Chinese-made flag when I pass away," said Rep. Ray Zirkelbach, a Monticello Democrat and Iraq war veteran who will introduce the bill later this week.

A draft copy of the proposal provided to The Des Moines Register shows that business owners or operators would face simple misdemeanor charges for violations. In addition to fines, people could face as much as 30 days in jail for selling a foreign-made flag.

More on the link.

Actually it's more that big business is willing to ship those goods and jobs over seas for more bucks in thier own pocket.

Of course as they ship those things out the people who've supported them faithfully and worked for them are suddenly unemployed and can't even buy the cheap chinese crap.

There should be a very high import tax on any company that does not manufacture at least 50% of the goods they want to sell to us if it's not made here.

But beyond that, NOBODY should buy a U.S. Flag made anywhere else but the U.S.A.

I agree with you on the flag issue Wordy. I don't however think we should tariff everything that is imported. It has become a global market. Personally I want to be able to buy a Honda or Toyota without paying a high tariff that way I can have a quality car as opposed to being forced to buy an inferior American owned car like a GM product.

I don't want to pay it either. But I forgot to put in my second part of that plan which would give big tax breaks for companies who do make thier products here and put Americans to work.

My thinking is that you'd be able to by that Toyota but it would have a made in the U.S.A. stamp on it.

The more legal Americans they employ, the bigger the tax break.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. FWIW Toyota and Honda I think are pretty much made HERE while GM and Ford make assemble some of their stuff in Mexico and Canada...kind of ironic I guess. The foreign automakers probably employ more Americans than the "American" made auto companies. I still wonder why Toyota and Honda has such superior quality to GM cars. What do they do DIFFERENT?

I dont' know what it is they do but I'm aware they do have a few plants here. The idea would be to make it more cost effective for them to build the cars here and put people to work than it is for them to build and ship them from somewhere else.

Sen. Clinton has voted YES for all free trade agreements presented during her tenure in Congress, except for the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) in 2005. Sen. Clinton voted to extend "most favored nation trade status" to China despite the country's record of substantial human rights violations.

Just some more boring facts

I don't think it's more cost effective to build here when some union monkey wants $35 an hour to put a bolt on a car when it goes by on the assembly line. People bitch and moan about jobs going overseas but between the gov't taxes on companies (those evil big corporations) and unions wanting more and more they have forced companies to go overseas to keep their profit margin.

And IF it really makes any difference to any of you on the DB, you don;t have to have a foreign flag draped over your dead ass any longer. And no one had to even pass another touchy feel good law to get this done!!!
