| What is so modern about welfare? The only thing that has changed is how much and how you get it. I feel the same way a LOT of people do about welfare. If you are an able bodied citizen you should work. If you are disabled or a senior then we as tax payers have an obligation to take care of our own...but if you can work, then go to work. I sometimes work 60 hours a week or more. I would like to be home to see my baby daughter more but I have to work so I have little sympathy for those that sit at home and draw a check when they could be working. If you feel that is wrong you are entitled. I am willing to bet that there are abled bodied people right here on the DB collecting gov't checks but still have internet and probably a buck or two to buy cigs.

| Dude...I didn't say anything about BB/BS which is Big Brother/Big Sisters. There are no such thing as BB/BS benefits unless you are talking about the kid having the benefit of a big brother or big sister. The money we raise for the BB/BS actually goes to the program to keep it running not a cash donation to the family or anything.

| the way I understand it, you won't technically be taxed on the rebate money. It is simply an anticipation loan for next years return. They are reconfiguring the tax brackets for 2008 so that your first $6000 worth of income is tax free. They tried to do this in 2001, however, the reconfiguration was never approved, so come tax time the following year, everyone who received a rebate got screwed. Hopefully, that doesn't happen again, or people who would be expecting a return may end up having to pay in a lot more. |

On the rebate business, Bush offered up the idea and the Dems in the House were all over it and couldn’t push it through fast enough. If it’s a bad idea they had the power to stop it but they liked it. If it works out well, the Dems will be claiming credit for it by election time. If it turns out to be “f*cked up”, pass the credit around.
