She makes good use of the "gov't safety net".

Unfortunately, she seems not to value the opportunity provided her since she has routinely failed classes and been forced to repeat them. No matter. Don't cost nothin'! And unlike in corporate tuition reimbursement plans, when Janine fails a class she is not required to pay for it. In fact, when she resells her textbooks at semester's end she gets to pocket the cash...
I remember a young woman like that when I was taking some collage classes in the 80s. She had two kids by different fathers, did the Section 8 housing and was getting her school paid. The county had two lawyers looking for the fathers to get child support. I was sympathetic until the day she started complaining that school was too hard and said that she just wanted to stay home with her babies.

BTW, I was working a full time job while taking classes.

I dunno, Wordy - I see the same kind of abuse here (well, when I'm brave enough to drive down in the 'hood). The rattiest Section 8 neighborhoods seem to have the nicest cars in the driveway - not that I don't drive a nice car, but I'm paying for it myself, along with any other expenses I choose to incur. But - hey! Who am I to judge? Maybe it's the boyfriend's car - or the landlord's - or maybe the boss loaned them a car - or maybe, just maybe, I bought it for them. Aren't I nice?

The only problem I see is that it would cost tens of millions to hire enough people to investigate all the fraud we hear about. So ya have to balance that cost against the probable cost to the system. We really don't need more state or federal employees bilking the system. Hubby tells me about enough to make my hair stand on end already.

To answer Wordy's original question - I'm going to buy a Glock.

I'm talking about the people that drive up to pick up their free lunch having kids in a 50K SUV.

I am all for say...a single mom with a couple of kids...having gov't help (daycare, paycheck, wic) while she is in school because eventually she will be productive citizen. There are people that have disasters hit their family and need help which is fine. I will help these people in a heartbeat. There are many people though that make poor choices and do stupid sh**. These are the people I have no use for and are the people I speak of. If you think welfare abuse isn't costly do a google search on it.

Oh I hear you loud and clear and I agree with you 100%. It pisses me off people using foodstamps and walking outside in the parkinglot getting inside a Lincoln Navigator. WTF! I have seen women use it and are buying dope and also getting food on their vouchers in exchange for drugs. I have seen capable mothers that need to work just sit in their house all day or sleep while their kids are in school. THAT IS BULLSHIT! PISSES ME OFF! But most of them have issues beyond using the system, and until they are ready to get the help they need than us taxpayers suffer.
