In fact, you might want to check with a lawyer to see that you wouldn't be libel for slander, defamation of character or some other charges by attributing such nonsense that you posted as a quote from Mr. Obama.

John Semmens, the author of the article in question writes for a blog/website whatever called azconservative.org. On the website itself under the "Columnists" heading it has Mr. Semmens name nextside a section titled "Semi-news." Pure political satire.

Thanks Drifter, using your info I checked snopes.com, the Urban Legends Reference Page, and found virtually the same thing about John Semmens. It appears he isn't detered to write a fictional story complete with quotes and call it the truth. Then other bigots will read it and call it true and repeat it to others as factual information.

Thanks for that. I emailed the quote to the Obama campaign, but with the amount of emails I'm sure they get, I doubt that I will get a response from them.

i doubt the obama campaign can really do anything about it. It wouldn't be slander...slander is the spoken word, but it could be libel. It would be hard to get it taken off. Since he is a person of high interest he is up for jokes and what not. Look at the enquirer and other grocery line magazines they make stuff up all the time and don't get hit for it.

Falsity

As a public official he would have to prove wreckless disregard for the truth AND actual malice in order for a Libel claim to be won.
